i gave my gecko crickets last night which i know he doesn't like all that much but he needs the moisture... he hates the feelers. i think he only ate them because he got mad at them for tickling him, lol!

i tried to hold one down to cut off the antennae but i squished it a little... so my question is how to you do that with out squishing them?

Get two pairs of tweezers.

Grab one of the crickets legs with one set of tweezers, and grab the antennae with the other set. Quickly pull (like you're plucking your eyebrows) the tweezers holding the antennae.

Sometimes legs come off in this process. There is no easier way known to me though! lol

Your gecko did not eat the cricket because it was tickling him... LOL... He ate the cricket because that is what leopard geckos do... They eat insects... Leave the antennae on the cricket... There is no reason what so ever to remove them...

Spooki, if you want to pull off the antennae, go ahead! At the end of the day it's whatever makes you feel better, it's YOUR choice.

Yes, the antenna CAN irritate the geckos, I've personally seen mine close their eyes, jump, and sulk off when they get right in their face.

They will eat crickets either way, but like I said, if you WANT to take them off, go for it. If the question is "will he eat more crickets without the antennae?" then the answer is no, it's not necessary by any means.

well seeing as how he ran away from the crickets into his hide and wouldn't come out i really don't think he likes them. he didn't eat them until i picked one up and offered it from behind. he seemed so annoyed by them, he reacts totally different to superworms and mealworms. i don't think he will eat them other wise. his last owners said they gave up on crickets because they ended up dying before he ate them.

Ok, pull the antennae off... While you are at it, you should pull off all the legs because they might bother your gecko too... Better yet, why not just mash the crickets into a paste and tube feed your gecko... This will surely take care of any tickling issues your gecko may have... Before anyone get offended, I am joking... On a serious note, your gecko just might be one of those geckos that does not like crickets for whatever reason... So my advice to you is to just keep feeding your gecko whatever it likes...

Wait a Minute

I want to know how to make Cricket Paste?

And what size tube to use?

As for my Leos, they have so far eaten whatever happens to be in the tank.
