What do you guys use in your cricket..housing..box things, whatever you use.

I use a 20 tall glass aquarium with a screen lid for 500 crickets. I use oatmeal on the bottom and that way they can munch on it (I do gutload them as well) and it seems to yield me the least fatalities.. I used to use paper towel but it got really nasty, really fast.

I use a 10 gallon tank with screen top and up to 3 pieces of egg crate, as well as 2 toilet paper rolls for up to 1500 crickets. I have 4 small bowls of cricket water which I make from crystals that I bought on-line. At the bottom there's about 1/2" of powdered gutload (progeckos) and a handfull of catfood. If it starts to get smelly, I take a strainer and strain the bedding. The powdered stuff goes back into the tank, the live crickets jump out and the dead crickets and shed skins go into the garbage.

I have no idea what I should use that would be easier to maintain and create less of a smell. The smell is hard for me to handle. So I am stilll looking for an easy way to maintain the enclosure for the crickets.

Oatmeal has been my favourite so far.. give it a shot? The more ventilation, the better. Using a rubbermaid was terrible for me, but an old tank with the screen lid really helped.

Toss the crickets and get dubia roaches! You'll eliminate both those problems as well as a few more.

If you're committed to crickets and you sift through the gutload every day or so, the smell should disappear.
