Wow I want to see if my super walmart has crickets that cheap.
I was spending like 10-15 each week when i had my five.
I got down to two and was only spending like 3 dollars a week
But now I have one adult and one baby baby and so it will prob go up to 8 (Babies eat more...)

Try to keep in mind that crickets have a very short lifespan. At most, they live 3 - 4 weeks when you buy the SMALL crickets (1/4"). When you buy the large, they could have as little as a week left to their lifespan (the ones with wings). This could account for the ones that are kicking the bucket. If you're buying them and they've already got wings, not only are they annoying and noisy, but they're not going to last long at all.

Crickets are best to buy in bulk when you get them small, and you have a lot of mouths to feed. When you just have one or two geckos, you should really only be getting enough to last you about a week. If you want to stick with crickets, try a store that specializes in reptiles. They usually have better prices, and will normally have a discount if you buy by the dozen.

Judging by how many you say your gecko eats, I'd say you could buy bigger crickets. The ones that are about 1/2"+ long will fill up your gecko faster, and still have some life left to them. These guys can handle a bigger mouthful then a lot of people give them credit for. You could easily feed them 3-6 big crickets rather than 10 - 12 small ones.

no, not fish bait. Crickets sold as bait can sometimes carry diseases; you might as well feed your gecko wild crickets. I'm talking about crickets sold as fish food; some species of aquarium fish enjoy them. The only problem with getting those crickets is that they usually do not come in small, medium, or large sizes like the ones sold as reptile food.

Crickets and mealworms sold as bait are raised differently than those sold as feeders. They should not be fed to anything. Get some silkworm eggs regrigerated and chow and hatch them out as needed they can last up to a month in the refrigerator the eggs not the worms. You can also feed roaches there are people out thee who sell smaller amounts. Crickets and mealworms suck as feeders. The fact that animals live and grow on them is a testament to the animals ability to make do with lower quality. Using silkworms or raising your own feeder not pest species of roaches is far superior in the long run and cheaper. No one who uses roaches regrets the benifits they have on the animals.
