Crickets Vs Hoppers

Hi!

Which one has a better nutritional value? I went to a large petshop near me and the woman there who had helped me before gave me 4 hoppers to take home for free to try to see if my geckos would eat them (as they arent eating crickets). I also bought some smaller sized crickets but these arent working either.

The Geckos seemed to take to the hoppers better than Crickets. They have only eaten 1 Cricket in 2 weeks since i got them but between them ate all 4 hoppers in one sitting which is quite encouraging.

I don't want them to just eat mealworms so at the advice of the woman at the petshop, i am starving the geckos of mealworms to try and 'force' (for lack of a better word) them to eat crickets or something similar.

So after that essay, which do you guys reckon is better nutritionally, Crickets or Hoppers?
Thanks,

Paul

Are hoppers the same as locusts? If so then I believe they should be fine as a staple diet, I've seen a lot of positive talk about them from other UK members.

No they arent the same. The pet shop i go to sells Locusts AND Hoppers......they look a bit like a cross between a locust and a cricket....they dont have wings though so they arent locusts.

locusts are great for a staple diet, Im one UK member that would reccomend them :) Never fed my geckos crickets and they still love the locusts, aslong as they aren't adult locusts they won't have wings, but you wouldn't feed them to your gecko as they would be too big.

Locusts go around in swarms literally destroying crops by the tonne, grasshoppers just hop around in the garden and chirp, locusts have a higher protein package then both of crickets and grasshoppers. Great!
