I dont breed crickets for many reasons...but I would assume you can find a lot out by googling it or looking for videos on youtube. Good luck with all that

i don't know how to breed them, but i am really good friends with the manager at a lps(lllreptile),and he said that when they go to the cricket farm, they let the workers drink all day because the smell is so bad.not something i'd really be intrested in doing!

A word of caution, they WILL smell, even if you keep them really clean.
That said, all I do is use a 20 gal aquarium with a UTH for the breeding tank. Fill sandwich sized plastic boxes (no lids) with fertilizer/pesticide free plain old potting soil. It's OK if it has perlite in it. Moisten all the dirt (right down to the bottom) so it's good and damp, but not over soaked. I mix it up with a plastic spoon. I use two sandwich boxes for a 10 gal, and place the boxed dirt on paper towel directly over the UTH. Lean cardboard egg crate up against the dirt tubs. I feed adults and babies tropical fish food flakes, and for water I use cotton makeup pads (the little squares or rounds sold next to regular cottonballs) soaked in water. Add 50 or so adult males and females. They will go almost immediately to lay eggs in the soil. Allow them to lay eggs for 8 or 10 days. At this point I remove the boxes of dirt and replace with fresh boxes and dirt (also remove any dead adults and spot clean tank). I take the boxes with the fresh eggs and place in a large tote (like a rubbermaid container) with a screened top. Place a dome light over the top with a 52 or 60 watt bulb. Most importantly, KEEP THE DIRT MOIST. If you let it dry out the eggs will die. You should have pinheads in a week or so. I leave the boxes of soil in for a couple weeks so any stragglers can hatch. Then I carefully dump the soil right into the tub with the babies. I have several large tubs going at once so I have a constant supply of all sizes. Allow some crickets to mature to adults to continue the cycle. You'll end up having more than you will know what to do with. :main_thumbsup: HTH!

Karin you make it sound easy. Too bad I hate crickets :)

ROFL!!! I hate them with a passion. But my geckos and frog come first. :main_rolleyes:

They ARE easy, but don't ignore them, because by neglecting to feed/water them for even a few days you can lose an entire generation. I learned that the hard way!

And I'm lucky enough to have a separate room in the basement with enough room for several large tubs on tables.

breeding crickets is easy...VERY EASY..but they STINK, require ALOT of room, its hard to clean..and did i mention..THEY STINK?

however....back to breeding lol

Buy 1,000 ADULT crickets.. put them in a bin with a pan in the middle that is full with moist coconut fiber.....the females will run to lay the eggs...remove all the crickets after 1 day... and leave the pan in the bin (w/ a lid & w/ mesh for circulation) @ 85'F+...then baby crickets will hatch...

its that simple..keep the baby crickets hydrated! Water gel sucks for this...so use moist paper towel and switch it out everyday

i get baby crickets hatching out of my females lay bins all the time...its annoying.. but its that easy to breed them..

Haha I well be moving to a ranch type of thing soon and I'm gonna be putting my crickets outside and I'm gonna actuly put mesh over the laybox so they don't eat it and i well take the egg laying box out and put them in a new bin.

I'm gonna have 3 trays for them a water gel tray a gut load tray (I make my own gut load) and when i feed fruit and vegies i well take out the water gel tray and put in a fruit and veggie tray.

But you want to breed them??? :main_robin: lol

Yes I want to breed them. I don't like them tho... Sense I well live on a ranch I well have room for them so I'm gonna get them because they won't be inside or anything. During the night i well take them inside and when its cold and raining and stuff also when its too hot.
