Hey guys,

I've previously wrote on the site due to my Leopard Gecko Blackie loosing weight and not eating. The results come back from the herp vet and sadley he is positive for crypto :(

BUT......

We are not giving up on him just yet as he started to eat quite a bit and even though he is a juvi he ate 17 crickets, 2 hoppers and a waxworm in one night!!!! The herp vet has told us that he still has his fat pockets and is not in an anorexic condition so there is a glimmer of hope we can stabalise him enough to live a long happy life.

He is currently needing an injection once a month and stool sent off to the lab once a month, he has also been given a medial nutrient which will also flush his system and being wormed once every 3 weeks. Hes currently lost his apatite at the moment but that's probably due to all the handling we have been having to do to subject the medicine for him.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we love our little baby and I don't believe that at the first sign of cyrpto you should end their little life. Yes its going to take all our time and it will cost a lot to but if your not willing to give your gecko a chance I don't believe you should own one. They have feeling to!!!!!

Fortunately, in the 17 years working with geckos, I have never had to deal with crypto first-hand. I'm so sorry to hear the diagnosis for your gecko,d hope that you do not have any others that could have been exposed. I know you are aware that this is a fatal parasitic infection that will not go away, although there are some promising new treatments. I don't see any reason for you to euthanize your gecko at this time, as long as it is eating and behaving normally. Since crypto is transmitted via oral/fecal contact, it's important that you remove any feces as soon as possible, and change the water bowl often. This will help extend your gecko's life by not allowing it to continue reinfecting itself and build up an intolerable parasite load.

I'm glad that you love your little gecko enough to have taken it to the vet, and are willing to spend the time and money to provide it's quality of life!
