There has been an ongoing "guessing game" as to the morph of my little one, Chloe. The short story is that I got 3 geckos from a breeder I can no longer get into contact with. One was a female (Lois), the other a male (Griffin). About 2 weeks after I got them, Lois laid a clutch, and one egg hatched (other failed), giving me Chloe.

I have spoken to a few very knowledgeable breeders, and they all have different opinions as to what they think Chloe is. Some think a Mack Snow (meaning one of my Trempers would be a Mack Tremper - something I won't know until test breeding, as I got them at 1+ years old), some think a Normal het Tremper. I am curious as to what you all think!

WHAT she is doesn't mean as much to me as that she is healthy, and IMO, very pretty :) She is my first ever hatchling, and that alone makes her very special. I just figured I would see what everyone else on here thinks!

Here are pictures of the two parents:
Lois (gravid):

Griffin:

And now here is Chloe, the day she hatched, and then now (one week short of 2 months):

The only thing is that those two can't be her parents since she would be albino if they were. So the father is unknown... hmmm... I still think Mack Snow. I mean, there is some *slight* yellow on her when she hatched, but not enough IMO to be considered a normal. Here's some normal hatchling pics:

So she definitely doesn't look anything like those.. I can't wait to see how the test breeding goes!

And assuming that one of the two is a parent to the little one, it's got to be MS het Talbino. This is a real head scratcher! :dizzy2:

You're telling me! Before I picked up the geckos, I asked the kid if any of the females were gravid, he said no. When I went to get them, they were all in a tub together...the 5 or 6 he was selling. So there IS a possibility that one of the other males fathered the little one. The female I pictured is FOR SURE the mother of the baby - I caught her laying. The male I pictured is the male that was in with her after I got them (for 2 weeks prior to her laying). She did not look gravid when I picked her up, but we all know how quickly that can change lol. It's really frustrating. The baby doesn't look QUITE normal (because of how she hatched), but she doesn't look quite Mack either. Marcia (Golden Gate Geckos) brought up a good point...if she was premature, her colors could possibly have not been developed fully. She was incubated at 82*, and hatched at 55 days. Isn't that pretty normal?

Sounds pretty normal, ours took 57 days to hatch at 81-82 degrees. The only way you'll truly ever know is through test breeding. Do you remember what other males were in that tub?

i am curious to see what the consensus is on the mack snow/normal debate for this one. my first gecko was bought from a big petstore and had only a tiny bit of yellow on her like yours, and now looks like a normal. so i am in the same boat. i think i might test breed mine eventually to know for sure. yours sure is pretty though!

There's some other people that had similar hatchlings that looked pretty much like a Mack Snow but had a tad bit of yellow. I wonder whatever happened with those geckos..

She's gorgeous whatever she is!

I voted Normal het Tremper... I've hatched lots of Macks and none have been brown (she looks dark brown to me rather than black)... The light coloration which is usually more yellow on normal babies really throws you off, but they will pop out occasionally from geckos totally unrelated to Macks...

something else i was thinking(i am so new at this so please forgive if these are dumb questions): how sure are you that both parents are tremper? to me trempers and bells can look the same depending on how dark/light the color is....sooo if one of the parents is a tremper and the other is a bell...wouldnt that make the hatchling a normal? or same scenario but with one being het mack snow..that could result in a mack snow hatchling?

correct me if any of that is wrong...still learning

Hey, Heather. Is your avatar picture taken from one of the two adults? I only ask 'cause that's a Tremper eye for sure. Eye shots of the adults should give us a good indication as to what albino strain they are.

Hey guys, sorry been a long day at work and just got home!

Maurice - Both adults are indeed Tremper, that I am SURE of. My avatar is my male's eye. Female's looks the same:

Jess - The other males in the tub were a super juvenile (undeveloped, and yes I did yell at the kid about putting different sizes together, even for my viewing of them), a huuuuge Blizzard, and I believe a Murphy Patty.

I am just really curious as to different theories. She is my mystery girl. And thank you for all the kind comments. I think she's gorgeous, and I'm loving her aberrant pattern on her back. She's my first little one, so like I would think any different :)

But so that either means that she is a by-product of a pairing that wasn't Mack at all, like Mike said; or what was thought to be a Murphy Patty was actually a Mack Snow Patty. Those are the only two possibilities since both your male and female are Tremper. Then again, maybe she had retained sperm from another pairing a long time ago? LOL the mystery continues.. Although I suppose you would technically know if she is het. for Patternless because she will turn out all speckly as an adult (let me know if you want to see some pics of our het. patties) :main_yes:

Well I only read the original post, but here are my thoughts:

She looks like a normal to me. I hatched a normal just a few days ago that looked like a mack. I think that might be the case here.

I say the only way we check is if we take her to the Maury show and have a paternity test. Who's your babys daddy? LOL.

Shes gorgeous though..

There is one solution, they are not both Tremper and one is another strain of mack albino, that would give you a normal or possibley a mack, if bred and one is Tremper and one is bell or RW, and either parent was a mack albino that seems like the most logical explanation to me. hope this may give some different options and insight to this dilemma,
