Damn bees!

As some of you may remember from my post way back in June, I got stung by some bees/wasp while mowing my grass. Well I guess I get to end my summer break on the same note I started it. I was mowing my backyard dirt today (we have had a pretty nasty drought so I have only had to mow my grass 2 times this summer!) and when I got to the exact same spot, I got stung again. Except this time I got swarmed. They followed me into the house and I just jumped into the shower with all my clothes on and sprayed with cold water. I stripped down and tried to get my clothes turned inside out to trap them. I had a few buzzing around in the bathroom by the time I streaked out of there. My entire backside, arms, shoulders, back, butt, legs and my ankles are covered with stings. Luckily, as I found out earlier, I am not allergic. I had to tear up one of my large aloe vera plants to rub on the stings to take the stinging out. I had no idea they could sting through clothes, but my rear-end is proof that they can!

The news gets even better: I started a bathroom remodel after I had a toilet overflow and damage the master bathroom and I have gutted that bathroom, so I only have the one working bathroom (although I at least have one, so that is good!). I had no choice but to get those suckers out of there so I could shower and so forth. I turned the a/c down to 65 and waited for it to cool off and then I took a gallon water sprayer in to get whatever bees were still there. I killed 6 that were flying around, 3 were dead in the tub, 3 were trapped in one sock, 4 were in a shoe, 2 were in the other shoe, 15 were stuck in my shorts and "unmentionables":D , and 26 were stuck to my t-shirt. I smacked the hell out of them to make sure they were all dead.

My butt is still sort of on fire and I am grumpy as hell. I still have to finish ripping out the subfloor and remove a 6' x 3' mirror in my other bathroom tomorrow. So this is what I did on my summer vacation!
Some good news...I finally got my workbench built and my garage is clean!:main_thumbsup:

Argh, that sucks, Ro. I hate bees--especially yellow jackets right now. They have a nest in the ground right outside the back door where I let the dog out. Hornets I can handle, but yellow jackets and those ones that actually BITE instead of stinging are harder to smash with your fist.

I'm getting some sevin dust and wiping those little turds out early tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will be too cool for them to be too active at the crack of dawn! My lawn mower is still sitting right where I left it. I still need to mow about 1/4 of the backyard. It is a good thing I am not allergic to stings or I would be in serious doo-doo right now. The back of my arms, my ankles and my butt still are burning right now. Little bees = big sting!

Wow Ro, I hope you do okay! I am allergic so when I see them little things I run around like a chicken with its head cut off! In grade school I tried the old "sit still and they won't bug you thing" thats how I got stung! I never got stung running around and flailing like an idiot, so I think I will stick with that game plan :D

Well I did run and flail around. I also cussed so fast it was like I was speaking in tongues. I now have just 2 big welt/rashes on my butt, 1 on each cheek about the size of a dollar bill. Several welt/rashes on my back and the back of my arms. My ankles are swollen a little but don't look too bad. I went out to take a look to see if I could locate the nest and they were already active this morning, so I didn't get to put anything on their nest yet, but I did find it! Revenge will be mine later this evening!

Thankfully I've gotten stung by enough bees to know exactly what the little bastards were that got you, mud wasps. Nasty mother-effers let me tell you. Fortunately for me, I've also gotten stung enough times where a simple ow is all i do and move on. Thankfully you weren't allergic or you'd be dead, not in serious doo-doo. Those little ground wasps are nasty and pack one hell of a sting. That many stings could easily have killed someone with an allergy to bee stings. Yellow jackets aren't the ones you have to worry about. Those are the regular bees you see flying around, they don't do much. The yellow and black ones. Its the ones that when they fly their legs dangle in the air, those are hornets. I've had them chase me across a football field and still not give up. They're even worse than the ground wasps. But in my experiences so far nothing can top those damned black wasps. They look alot like hornets when they fly, legs dangling, but they're skinny, solid black body, orange wings and legs, and they have the nastiest attitude. Setting foot within 20 feet of their nest will almost certainly provoke them. I guess your lucky Ro, all you did was piss off a ground wasp nest instead of agitating one of those big hanging nests the size of a basketball.

You need to be careful when it comes to venomous stings... You may be able to take stings fine today, but by tomorrow, you could build up a hyper sensitivity and multi stings are exactly what can cause it... When a venom is introduced into your system, it is a crap shoot on how your body will deal with it...

Just because your body did not have an allergic reaction this time around, it does not make you safe for the next time....

Take care of that ass Ro.... LOL

I'm not in that bad of shape...I'm much better off then the bees as of a few hours ago!:D

I sprayed the hell out of the nest with some stuff I got at the Home Depot...they were dropping out of the air as they tried to fly out of their hole. It sucks to be them! I'll check it out tomorrow to see if any survived, if they did, I'll get another can and spray the crap out of them again! And I 'll keep spraying them until they are all DEAD or move to someone else's backyard! :main_thumbsup:

Make sure your EpiPen hasn't expired. I think you have to get a new one every year. You really don't want to be caught without it!!!

BTW Gregg - good post!!! A lot of people don't know that, but I shouldn't be surprised you're aware of it with the critters you keep! :main_thumbsup:

OUCH
I sure am glad to read that you did not have an allergic reaction with so many stings
Gregg is certainly right on that subject-it could be much worse the next time-so be very careful around that spot in case they are still there despite the spraying
insects are resilient critters-unless you are tying to grow them for lizard food-LOL
We had a wasps or a hornets nest a few years back in the gap of one of the cinder blocks in out garage and they came out and attacked when the lights got turned on at night
I had NEVER been stung by anything before that time in all of my 50 yrs of life and that year i got stung two or three times before we sealed up the nest with some caulk and no more wasps/hornets
:D
Take care Ro and feel better soon
Sandy
