So, because I don't have anything better to (ha!) I've decided to try my hand at working towards a black gecko. I know many others have been working on this, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I've just purchased this cute little normal female who is het for patternless and tremper.

She's got plenty of growing to do, so I have some time to find her the perfect dude. What would you guys go with? I have a really nice dark blizzard I could pair her with, but I've heard that the mack snows sometimes have the melanistic thing going... or should I just keep my eye out for another normal male that looks like her? I know it's pretty much up to chance, but I'm just tryin to get some ideas. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

Nice gecko!

It's really hard to tell at that age if the dark color will hold... There's a few people on here that have some very dark Patternless; I'd be hitting them up for a future male if I were in your shoes...

Now who was it again???

I would love to see a black leopard gecko. I would love it even more if it were line bred from normals. So I would go with a normal, but thats just me.

Thanks all, for the suggestions!

I know since she's het patternless I should probably go for a dark patty male, but I would love to try the "normal" thing too. If I could just find a way to blend all those spots together into one big black gecko! :main_rolleyes:

What does everyone think about a dark blizzard cross? This guy that I have stays dark constantly - I've never seen him lighten up once (well, except for when he's in shed) but would that be too much in the mix? What would the offspring be, triple hets?

Now I just gotta hope her color will hold.....
Love the ideas! Keep em comin!

I think line bred from a simalar normal would be the best way to achieve this. Somone on here has already got some pretty dark leos, I just cant remember who.

Here she is!

This is one brave little gecko. As I was snapping these shots she came charging fearlessly toward me and the flashing thing in my hand, not hesitating one bit! I didn't want to have her out too long since she's new, but she's so pretty! I have this awful feeling she'll turn out really bright yellow... oh well. she's fun.:main_yes:

Oh yeah definitely, no doubt she'll be nice looking, it's just that if she turns out bright yellow, she won't be so good for my hypothetical dark leo project. :main_rolleyes: :D
