Hi peeps :)

Ive been keeping mealworms now for about 2 months. Started with 1 tub and as the end of the month came i had a lot of pupa so i got another tub of worms.

At the moment some of my 2nd month worms are turning into pupa, i have a lot of beetles and still plenty of worms.

I keep them all in a big plastic container (was a hamster home) with plenty of airholes in the top, just plain porridge oats for substrate, carrot that i change every 2-3 days and i keep it in my shed that is attached to the house so it is fairly warm and dark.

I keep all my worms, pupa and beetles together in one tub.

For the first month i had them in a plastic sweet tub, but i gave them some orange and it seemed to turn the oats mouldy so thats when i changed their home and gave them all new oats and stuck to carrot.

The problem im having is my beetles seem to be getting eaten or something is happening to their outter shell. When im finding dead beetles they have their head, their inside body is dried up but they have no outter shell. I have also seen some alive with shell that is missing.

Are they eating each other or do they have something wrong with them?

Are the worms safe to feed to my geckos? They havent been too keen on eating them the last few days.

Would seperating my worms, pupa and beetles help?

Thanks in advance for any help :main_thumbsup:

The beetles don't live that long. THere isn't really a problem with the beetles --they are probably dying of "old age", but the beetles can eat the mealworms and pupae. It's best to separate the 3 stages.
