day gecko feeding-Superworm/mealworm?

I just got two day geckos which are about 5-6 inches in length. I already have leopard geckos, so am comfortable with mealworms, but I can't find anywhere that says whether or not they can be fed to day geckos. I found that it is OK for Giant Day Geckos, but not any other type. The small mealworms/superworms do not seem too big by any means. Does anyone know if this is OK?

The difficulty is that the day geckos are arboreal and the worms tend to be near to the ground and bury themselves. What substrate do you have? If you can set it up so they can get access to the worms before the worms bury themselves in the substrate or in the corners it shouldn't be a problem. I feed my day geckos CGD and small crickets.

Problem with mealworms is that they move less and hence attract less attention. They also rarely climb and would rather burrow then pupate. Superworms do climb but the problem is that they're too big for any lizard with a 5-6 inch length. Superworms also pack a small fight when grasped and their bite could prove injurous to a small lizard.

Try placing an elevated food dish that could be fixed in a branch like a dish that is often used to feed birds. This could bring them to eat mealworms. You could also try breeding some fruit flies. They're easy and best of all, free.

Just get a small jar, put an overripe piece of banana inside then cover the jar with an old stocking or a piece of plastic with needle-sized holes, fix it in place with a rubber band and put it in a dark corner. After a couple of weeks you have your own fruit flies.

Thank you for your comments. I got some small superworms (they are as small as the smallest mealworms). I tried putting them in a small dish (it is actually a coffee scoop with the handle removed). They are not able to get out of the bowl, so I will see if they go for it in the dish. I may try your suggestion of putting them up higher if they do not got for it. I just did not want to feed them anything that would hurt them. I will let you know how it goes!

The fruit flies sold at pet stores are the flightless kind. Of course, they still get out when you feed, but if you keep a cup of vinegar near the cage, they get attracted to that and drown.
