So 2 weeks ago i noticed my 9 month old male having serious diarrhea. Prior to this he had stopped eating for two weeks.

I took a fecal sample to a vet and was told it was crypto. The vet said it wasn't looking good for him.

He gave paromyacin (probably spelt that wrong) and bactrim antibiotic.

He told me to keep him hydrated, and to use either pepto bismol or immodium to slow down the diarrhea.

I have been disinfecting his tank with diluted bleach and all his hides and water dish as well as replacing papertowel substrate daily. Hes obviously in quarranten. He hasn't had contack with any other reptiles and i always waah my hands and use sanitizer after handling my reptiles.

I've been giving him diluted pedialyte as the diarrhea medication is not very effective. His temps are 90 on the warm, 85 middle and 80 on the cool. He spends the majority of his time in his moist hide on the warm side.

He hasn't lost too much weight. He still has alot of fat in his tail, but he has dropped down 5 grams. Every other day i give him oxbow carnivore care. Just a small ammount for him to lick off and get some nutrients.

Has anyone have any tips or maybe im doing something wrong? Some days it looks like hes weak and about to die and other days hes acting normal like he did before this happened.

Crypto is fairly serious. There isn't much you can do other than what you are already doing, which is give the meds prescribed by the vet and try to keep him hydrated. You can also try making a gecko slurry (recipe pinned at the top of forum), but carnivore care and pedialyte are pretty close. You might want to try every day if he's only taking a little bit at a time. Daily soaks in a bit of warm water (not above gecko knees) can also help with hydration.

A few notes:
- Bleach doesn't kill crypto. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia do.
Tank Cleaning and Disinfecting - EverythingReptile.org
- Always do him last, after your uninfected reptiles. Use separate tools/sponges/containers/everything. Scrub hands very well after any contact. etc. Crypto is contagious, so you don't want any way for it to get from his tank to your other reptiles.
