Have been checking in the incubator every morning and night as eggs are due to hatch, 2 hatched 2 days ago and the next ones to hatch are due any day, have 2 eggs that had swollen twice the size in the incubator over the past 2weeks now 1 have deflated and i shined a LED light on the egg and something is in it, is this the process of it hatching? do i just wait and see? or is something wrong with the egg?

Have never witnessed my eggs hatch this is why i am asking.

Shiftylou, I am having the exact same thing here! I know some eggs do cave in when they are ready to hatch but this is my first time too and when it is said "ready to hatch" how long does that mean, hours, days? Guess we will just have to bite our nails and find out. Good Luck to you friend.

Usually you'll see the egg sweat and deflate a bit just before hatching.

However after 4 days I'd be too impatiant and worried and would pip the egg myself, but only if it's due to hatch already. There are some that would let nature takes it course and allow the gecko to expire if it can not make it out on it's own because that would be natures way of culling. That has to be a personal choice to make.

If you decide to pip the egg yourslef, just be careful and good luck!

What you can do is if you can see a baby in there touch the egg and push just a little and see if it moves, doing this while candling helps to see the baby as well. If it moves it's obviously still alive and doing good. If it doesn't move well then it MAY have expired already. If you're morbid (I am about this I guess) you can cut the egg and see what is in there. Be warned you're taking a chance no matter what your choice is. I have found some very disturbing things after cutting eggs.

Before you decide to cut, make sure you have your dates right, it could turn out bad if you are cutting too early.

With all that said, I use very small sissors used for trimming a mustache.
