alright... apparently i typed this all out last night when i should of been cleaning some tanks insted... AKA the site went down for a bit to update or something... anyways... here it is again

with tax season apon us we sit here and wait for our W2s and ponder what do we need to get with our money... and one of the big things is a hovabator... and EVERYTHING that goes with it... so with that said... can someone please take the time to give me a very detailed list of just what EVERYTHING is... and i mean everything! if you have some links that you could recomend me to for good prices that would be swell where is the best place to pick up a hovabator... whats the best kind? where can i get the lil cups, how about the stuff that goes in the cups, perlite or hatchright or somethin like that... thermomaters, and thermostates, the works!!! i need it all and wanna do this 100% right the first time... so please be as detailed as possible and again if you have links to places you have great luck and lower prices that would be a plus!

Here's the best I can do, being pretty tired from driving to WHite Plains and back:

--hobovator: you don't need any fancy model. The best price seems to be llllreptile but their shipping is high. You could try ebay and advertising for one on Maine herp society classifieds (occasionally they pop up on craigslist). I think the lll reptile one also comes with a few deli cups and covers. I want to say it runs $30-40 but not sure

--proportional thermostat: this is probably the most expensive piece and runs a bit over $100. I got mine from Big Apple Herp and at the time (2005) it was the best price. If you can find an area that has rock solid ambient temps, maybe you could do without this for a bit.

--digital thermometer with probe: about $10 at Radio Shak or electronic store places. I set mine up so the thermostat and thermometer probes both feed through the same hole and are near each other

--incubation containers: you can use the cheap "disposable" plastic ones with lids at the supermarket. I use the slightly more expensive clear plastic, more heavy duty ones that are sold singly at supermarkets rather than in the pack of 4.

--perlite: pretty cheap at most garden centers

--zip loc bags of water: to help regulate temp. I'll be using gallon bags; the water is cheap

--electricity: just add it onto everything else.

This is what has orked for me:

-Hova-Bator
-Deli Cups (I use the 8oz ones, and have one clutch per container)
-Incubation medium; SuperHatch, Perlite, HatchRite, Vermiculite, etc.
-Probe Thermometer

Not having a thermostat means having to watch the temp. closer, but I have had great success.

Here's what I do: get the largish size (like 8"x4" or so) of disposable (gladware, I think) plastic container from the supermarket. Cut a rectangular hold in the cover. Fill it 3/4" with eco-earth (other people use other things, but I like this stuff) and moisten it when it dries out. It doubles as a humid hide.

If you have a feeder/farm supply type store in your area the Little Giant incubators ( not the fan ones) work well also. I got mine last season for $36.00 and it did as well as my hovabator.
