I'm going to apologize for the length here. I'll try and break it up and I really thank you in advance for going through it all.

A month or two ago, my leo started having really bad diarrhea that came and went. He'd have one runny stool and then be completely back to normal for a week or two. I didn't think much of it since his feeding had been kind of irregular and his behaviour was otherwise completely normal.

Two weeks ago, though, it got really bad and every single stool was loose. It gummed up his vent really badly, so I spent an hour one evening cleaning it all up and disinfecting with a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide. It worked beautifully and he healed up enough to have a few normal stools.

Two nights ago, he had another attack of diarrhea. It's stuck around his vent again (I'm washing it off tonight). However, his most recent stool from today was totally normal.

I also noticed that he has a little bump on the side of his mouth. It's a bit pink and sore looking (I've attached a photo) and you can't really see it in the picture but it looks a bit brown inside his mouth. I can't be sure. His eye also seems a little squinty, although he opens it now and then.

Is it possible he's developed mouth rot from licking his vent to get it clean? I'm fastidiously clean with his tank so I don't understand how else he could have gotten it.

He needs to go to the vet but I can't get him in right away. Is there anything I can do in the meantime? If these recurrent health problems keep up ($130 prolapse surgery in October), I'm not going to be able to keep him anymore.

Has this gecko ever been dewormed? It is possible that he has a parasite infection. You can send a sample to your vet and they could test it (if theyve seen your gecko recently there should be no need for an exam to do this, althought it might be a good idea).
I see no signs of mouth rot, and if he has it - you caught it in its early stages.

He's never been tested for parasites, no. I'll call the vet and see if he can do stool samples.

Do you have any idea what might be causing the little bump and slight squinty eye? What would be a sign of mouth rot?

Thank you so much for answering. I really, really appreciate it.

Is there anything I can swab his mouth with to clean it up?

I'm not sure. I've never seen mouth rot in a leopard gecko personally. Ive seen it in bearded dragons, and I know it can be caused by acidic fruits. In geckos, I'm not sure. Maybe when you call the vet you can get him on the phone and ask him these questions without having to go in.

I believe mouth rot with geckos is environmental.
If it is truely mouth rot, it will need antibiotics to cure the bacterial infection.
