Different animals in the same cage

I was curious if there are other types of Geckos, snakes, frogs or other flora and fauna that could be kept in the came cage as a Leo. Something with similar heating and humidity requirements that wouldn't eat or be eaten by my gecko?

Um, I'm not sure it's pointless, exactly. It would be cool if there wasn't such a danger for all animals involved. I think the biggest problems would the different parasites/diseases that they could pass to each other. Plus, leos are naturally solitary animals so any interaction with other animals could possibly be stressful.

I just re-read the original post and there are definitely some plants that can be in the cage to make it look more natural/attractive. I just don't know exactly which ones - I'm sure someone else will have some more ideas for plants, but skip the other animals...

I think thats pointless, its just stupid I would never think of doing that, what if you went to sleep one night, and woke up with a dead gecko..... its just stupid

The latest Reptile Magazine had a cool write up on a multi species setup for a Rainforest type set up. It was pretty cool.

Um? Dane, I would just like to take this opportunity to point out that just because you didn't think of it doesn't automatically make it stupid.

Yes, it would be horrible to wake up to a dead gecko, but I think an advanced hobbyist might be able to pull it off - depending on all the species involved. And that would be cool. It's not a stupid question because hopefully the original poster will now know that while it's possible, it's not generally not recommended.

I am by no means an expert, just a curious newbie with too much time on his hands and not enough reptiles (yet)...

I don't recommend keeping any other animals in with a leopard gecko -- Even if husbandry is comparable between two species and all animals are healthy.

I wouldn't do it especially if your a rookie. Leave that up to experts and zoo's. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of space needed to house more then one species together. it probably can be done but it's not recommended and probably more hazardous then joyful for you and the animals.

Just my two cents.

I would not recommend it either. I'm sure it has been done with little problems, (at least that the keeper noticed) But from experience, keeping two leopard geckos together in the same cage does not always work out let alone another type of animal. I keep all my animals separate. Even when breeding, I only leave the male in long enough to get the job done and then separate.

Their is a thing about mixing species in RTs book that I read and although its possible, I really wouldnt reccomend it. IMO mixing species isnt a safe or good idea, have tried it in the past when I was new to the hobby and learned my lesson.

Yeah, and most of the examples he gives are clearly wrong, like mixing day geckos with leopard geckos... I don't think I'll ever find two gecko species with a habitat so opposite. That chapter was not needed...
