Will a gecko dig if she is stressed? She is only 3 mos. old.. has never been with a male .. but when I put her back in her cage tonight after holding her instead of letting her out to explore, she started to dig up the tank angrily using all 4 of her legs (not at once of course) :main_huh: She looked peeved and when I put my hang back in she tries to climb on me (she likes to get out of there) :main_robin:

I haven't heard of them digging when they're stressed, but the most case is gravid. Some Leos like to just dig for no good reason, my Amber peeves me all the time doing that  Lol it's really nothing to worry about.

She is doing it, stopping, then looking at me. She is right above the uth and she lays on the bare bottom so I am concerned b/c she may get burned. When I put my hand in she follows it to climb up my arm (I just cleaned the tank) and when I take my hand out she digs and digs. :main_thumbsdown: very bad.. gravid is not possible. I have had her for over a month and she started to dig today... usually she just crawls all over everything.. reaches for the lid.. (trying to escape)

in my thoughts
she might just be bored or something is bothering her in the tank that she wants to get out. was she ever housed in loose substrate? If she was maybe she still isn't use to paper towels.

She is on peat moss and has been since she came.. never dug anything until last night. She comes out of her hide when she hears me come home.. crawling around the cage in my direction, she climbs up her hammock and driftwood and follows me around with her head.. I covered up the hole about 4x and she stopped... she is a needy one. No one stresses her out in the tank she is in a 20 gallon long with her lil sis. They get along great, although sometimes they step on eachother... they dont seem to care too much :)

You should get her off the peat moss. That can be ok for a himid hide but not for the main beeding. Stick with solid substates.
And if you have a rheostat on the UTH she shouldn't get burned, uless it is too hot for you to touch then it is too hot. :)

She is only 3 mos. old never been bred.. (She is over 7 inches long- Dad was a giant) her tank is her home... I have separate enclosures for breeding with paper towels as substrate. I have a rheostat .. if she digs again I will hook it up. :main_yes:

If she is digging over the UTH, that means that it is not warm enough on top odf the substrate. Make sure the surface temperature is 90*f.

Its a few degrees above 90.... temps are fine. Her cave is right over the heater and there is about a 1/2 in. of substrate... (not enough to act as an insulator) I added more in that spot now tho.
She did it again today when I put her back... she gets spiteful... I know she was doing it so I would pick her up again. She is spoiled rotten!! She never does it unless I am there!!
