My beardie Pogo love bath time. It' great during shedding and as a way to calm them down if they have a temper.

I make the water a little hotter than warm. they like it hot but not enough to burn.

Pogo runs and splashes around. It's a good way to make sure that they absorb enough water.

Do you guys think those animals do takes baths in their natural environment ?

No they don't but the dew does forum on their body and they do absorb it though their skin.

Mist your dragon daily under the basking light in the morning bathing once to twice a week. This is really important if your dragon is not a big salad eater. In the wild they get their water from the dew and the greenery they eat

I bathe Kirby a couple-a few times a week. He hates bathes. I do it because I'm afraid he's not getting enough water.

I was told that the reason they don't live as long in captivity is because we don't give them enough water. I guess there was some sort of study done on this and it was because they were dehydrated.

the reason your beardies "love" bathes is because they are from an arid environment in the wild they get their water from humid burrows and morning dew
and if they come across the puddle they waste no time to get as hydrated as possible because only god knows when they will see another one
so that is why your dragons go nuts and drink water until they are fat and full
it's the same reason they eat so much, if they pass up water or food they could die because they might not have the opportunity again
it's that simple
Intersting. I did not know this. Does this mean we could be over feeding our dragons?

They don't absorb it through their skin. The only part they absorb it through is their vent. When you spray them, they are licking it off their head or their lips.

I love this thread! Very interesting!

I'm sorry Allie but it's not the same. Providing a gecko with a humid hide is recreating the cave or crevice that they would naturally take refuge in.

Soaking a Bearded Dragon in a tub isn't recreating anything natural. Light misting to simulate rain or misting down veggies to recreate morning dew, that's natural.

This, IMO, is asking for health issues.

I'm very interested in that. I have been bathing Kirby because I'm afraid that he's not getting enough water like I said above.
He tends to smack his lips, and when he does that I'll run the bath for him and he'll drink up. (He doesn't always drink up... like one in five times)

i give my beardie a bath about 2-3 times per a week. When he is shedding i sometimes increase that to once or twice a day just to make him a little happier and to make the shedding process take less time.
