Do you crop for eye shots?

Just wondering how everyone does it; do you use tripod to take a very high resolution head shot, then crop out the eye area? Or is the eye shots are just the way its taken (no crops). My camera can focus with macro at about 1cm away from object; but even if I point the camera lens right at their eye, I still can't get pics that ONLY show the eye like the pics I see people showing: just the eye with incredible details of the veins.

I use macro and then crop. My camera isn't the best but I've gotten some good pics this way. Here are a couple:

Good pics. The macro we have is on our rebel xti. It allows us to get the eye in the entile frame mostly and not much of the face. I really like it, unfortunately, they stopped making the rebel xti now.

I use Canon G9, I read through the instruction manual but not much was said about macros. I thought I should be able to take eye shots that fill the entire picture frame, but I can't. Besides the macro button, what other settings do I need to set (e.g. focal length - does it matter?).

My sis bought a Ricoh G8 (R8?), and she can zoom in VERY close to the object, amazing macro shots!

If you use the preset Macro setting (the flower symbol) then you probably can't customize any of the settings. If you use the Manual mode you should be able to set your focal length and point and shutter speed. You may have to break out the manual.
