Do you have your UTH permanently stuck to the cage bottom?

I keep my UTH loosely under the tank. Not stuck to the bottom glass. I know it probably won't get as hot this way but it's easier to clean the tank without having to drag the cord with me when I clean it. Am I making a mistake by not permanently sticking it to the underside of the the tank?

I used to stick them on, but now I just peel the back off, stick them to foil, and then use foil tape to stick them to the bottom.

Does this really work? If so, that would be great! I hate not being able to change the position of my UTH or remove it when I am cleaning the tank!

I kind of wish now that I wouldn't have stuck my Zoo Med UTH to the bottom of my leo's tank. I like the foil/tape idea. That's what I'll do when I replace it someday I guess. For my fat tail, I use a different kind of UTH which I really like. It's an Ultratherm and is non-adhesive. I just tape it to the bottom of the tank with wrapping paper tape. Love it! It's also a lot thinner than the bulky Zoo Med pads, but works just as good if not better.

All of mine are stuck to, but during the winter it tends to get pretty darn cold in our place so I take foil and add a layer outside the UTH to help boost the heat. I then take it off once it starts getting warm out. It's not a carzy amount of heat boost, but it's enough to keep them at where they need to be. (Our place tends to be REALLY drafty.) It directs the heat in this case where it needs to go which is in the tank.
