This thread is quite old, but I guess since it was revived I'll add in my own reply :p

Both of my geckos were "pet store" geckos, however the two stores are not as bad as I perceive some US stores to be. One is a larger chain which I don't trust as much, but their geckos are mostly local from what I asked and one of the employees even sells his sometimes there. Most of the workers also have leopard geckos so they were able to offer some good advice. Although the geckos are individually housed, I don't like that they use sand no matter how big or small the leo is. My boyfriend's leo is also from here.

The second store is a dedicated reptile store that I was really impressed with. Housing for the leopard geckos was VERY good. They were in a rack system with no bright lights over the individual cages, weren't using sand substrate, etc. My avatar is a picture of the albino patternless I got there. Shy lizard, but I don't blame the store :)

Both were around $100USD. Not sure if that's a comparable price to US stores for a Jungle and Al. Patternless.

// there is one pet store which I do not like and will not buy lizards from because they keep a lot of their leos in the plastic containers mostly used at expos and have bright lights over these poor creatures. NOT happy about it.

I got a jungle and a murphys patternless at two different pet store chains for $15-$30 each. I also got a Tang and an Albino at the same places for the same prices. All are healthy and thriving!

The only reptile I have ever bought from a pet store was my first snake. I try not to impuse buy with my animals I like to take my time save my money and find one I really like. But if you just want a pet then nothing wrong with a reptile from a respectible pet store. But if you consider breeding in my opinion I wouldn't tough one from any pet store.

I got Ozy at a large chain store almost a year ago now. She's fat and sassy to this day. She's a Blizzard.

Any breeder will tell you this never take or buy a gecko that you do not know the genetics too if you are planning on breeding. If you are getting it just as a pet it's okay but if you purchase from a pet store you will not know the exact genetics and then can not know the exact genetics of the offspring

My first Leo was a lovely little Mack Snow Hypo, from Pets at Home in the UK, but she only lasted 2 and 1/2 weeks. She only ate 1 mealworm in that time, despite my best efforts.

I've now got my gorgeous (poss. high yellow) boy who's 89g and 10" long. He's picky, but he's a good eater. He's from a independent reptile shop, and they're fantastic!

I have gotten all 3 of my leo's from a pet store of some type. Be it big chain, mom and pops shop, or an exotic reptile shop.

I have had/have 2 pet store leos. my first one was my sweetest one ever! I got her from a big chain pet store, where the clerk told me that leos were agressive and should never be handled :main_thumbsdown:. well she was my little girl regardless, but I noticed she was ill shortly after I got her home. luckily she was already in quarantine, but she became anorexic skinny, even though she was fed the same as my other perfectly healthy geckos! eventually she passed quietly in the night. at the time I had a beautiful breeding colony set up on the other side of the room.(this is hurting me to talk about) but somehow all of them caught whatever she had, and all but one of my four of my babies died within weeks despite intensive care and mdications... RIP Squirt, Ash, Tenshi, and Lizzy.... the only survivor made a full recovery and is the super snow tremper albino hiding her eyes in my avatar :p (the white one). my other store gecko I purchased , just days ago ,from the reptile store that I've been going to since before I could walk, where the owner talked me into buying her because she has the starts of MBD, and was very neglected by the people they bought her from, and they didn't have the time or money to give her special attention at the store, so recovery pending! wish us luck!

I got my little lady from Pet Co about a month ago. She looks pretty healthy and is very active. Still quite skittish, but I'm sure that will wear off. She was being quite a pig and conquering 6-8 medium mealworms in a night. Now since I put her in a new terranium and changed some things she has stopped eating the mealworms and eating crickets I put in there. Hope she starts eating again.
Anyway she is a Normal and quite cute!

this is my beauty pet store steal. Got her for $35. She's a banded RAPTOR. Was called a "hypo-white" yeah, not real, but she had solid eyes and a Mack snow albino look changed to a beautiful bright colored gecko. She's fatter than this picture now, and even more brilliant coloration. I love her&mack RAPTOR's color the most :p

Yep, not a general pet store though; one that specialises in Reptiles (although they did have Lemmings at the time...). It was a small store and they were very kind and helpful. He was already a year old by the time I got him, and he'd clearly been handled a lot. My lil' Theo is a lovebug. <3

He's had no health issues apart from getting skin stuck on his feet from time to time, despite having a moise hide. It's easy enough to peel away, though.

Both of my leopards are from a big chain store, my Tokay is from a reptile show though, but I've only had her about a month. I've had the Leo's for a few months now and both are very healthy, although I saw some leopards in the store in very poor condition. One had patches of shed everywhere and was missing it's tail. I considered purchasing it to attempt to save it but I decided that it would just be replaced by another specimen, and I'd still be supporting it.

Ohhhhhh yes she is mean. I've tamed her down quite a bit and she has only given me warning bites, never drawing blood. I consider her nice in terms of a Tokay though.
