I have a 30 long. they poop in the corner and occasionally the middle. I have 1 corner of sand and a moist hide/laybox of vermiculite and moss... so it gets messy in there ( messy meaning for anal retentive me i get upset with the sand/moss/dirt by thursday!)

I vacuumed it out today. It seemed to work.

is this sanitary enough ( for the geckos, I dont particularly care about the vac.) if I take it out every two-three weeks and wash it?

The vacumming if good for spot cleaning but i dont think it gets rid of a lot germs/bacteria... With my old repti carpet I used to throw it in the washing machine, with a LITTLE bit of soap and then put it threw the rinse more then once. Seemed fine just as long as you wash all the soap out and dont use anything to harsh.

I clean out my enclosures with diluted Chlorohexidine. (generic Nolvasan)...in a spray bottle. You can soak your cage carpet in a 1-3(water) solution and let dry.You can find it on Amazon for $13.00 a gallon or at some reptile shows.
