I know a lot (if not all) breed based on looks by getting the best colored geckos to mate.
Does anyone breed based on behavior, personality, and characteristics?
How do you breeders pair your mates? :)

I haven't particularly paired based on "personality", though the offspring of my geckos demonstrate a range of character traits from all my pairings. I have a small collection --3-4 males that breed and 6-8 females. I need to keep it small because I don't have space for more and I don't want to have too many babies to sell (I started in 2005 with 1.2 breeders). My males are Tremper albino, hypo Mack snow and patternless redstripe het for tremper, so my pairings and holdbacks are based on what I can achieve with these males. If I like the results I'll repeat the pairing. I can go through the specifics if you ask a detailed question. I discussed some of this in my article on Gecko Time called "How to breed on a small scale".

In general behavior is not part of the equation, however there are exceptions. For instance, the enigma. This is probably the most concrete example I can provide for now. Pretty much the "enigma syndrome" is something that people specifically try to reduce when breeding. It is a disorder that affects behavior. The spins, wobbles, etc...are behaviors we don't want in the animals, so it would not be suggested to breed one that has those traits. To a lesser extent some specific animals are not bred based on individual behaviors, but not really on a morph-wide basis that I'm aware of at this time.
