Does anyone have any experience with the Hydrofarm thermostat?

Hey all,

Just moved my leo into his larger enclosure with the UTH. I am having some trouble understanding how to use the thermostat, and the instructions aren't really helping :/ It's the Hydrofarm Heat Mat thermostat. I don't know how to set the lower temp and the higher shut off temp. I can set a temperature, but I'm not sure which one it is. Help!!

To the best of my knowledge, a thermostat can only be used to regulate 1 temperature: turn on when the probe shows that it's below the desired temp and turn off when the probe shows that it's above the desired temp. If that's the case, I'd imagine you'd put the probe above where the heat mat is, set the thermostat to 92, plug the heat mat into the thermostat and plug the thermostat into the outlet. Let me know if that makes sense. Depending on where in MA you are, I could always come and take a look.

Ahhhhhh ok. NOW it makes sense! I set it for 91 and it is still heating up (packaging for the UTH said it can take up to 6 hours to get to the desired temp). Currently at 84.5* Thanks for your help :)

I own a couple of these. This thermostat has a set number of degrees below your programmed temperature it will allow befor kicking the power to the uth back on. I'm not at home right now to check, but as far as i recall, it will resume heating at 3 degrees (F) below your set temperate. Unlike more sophisticated thermostats, you cannot change this 3 degree range on the Hydrofarm.

Eg, you set your thermostat for 91, it will provide power to the uth until it hits 91, at which point it will cut power to the uth. The temperature will slowly drop while the uth is off until your thermostat reads 88, then power to uth will be turned back on. On a fancier thermostat, you could program the thermostat to turn back on at 90, or 89, or whatever you wish. This one does not have that functionality.

Keep in mind that you will see the temperature go a little above 91 and a little below 88 during the cycle. This is because the uth is still warm when power is cut off, and it takes a little bit to resume warming once power is restored.
