Does sand conduct or block heat?

The CHE apparently did the trick last night. My temp on the cool side was 70 and the tiles in the middle of the tank had a little warmth to them instead of being really cold, so I think I'll stick with the CHE. My son has been ignoring it, probably because it doesn't shine light and have a really neat switch to play with, LOL. Once temps start warming up, I'll remove the che and we'll be good to go. Thanks for your patience, everyone. I never got around to putting sand under all of the tiles, but I learned a bit about it, which is always good. :)
