Does sex affect personality?

This might be stupid question but I was wondering if a leopard geckos sex affected its personality? With some other animals males are known to be more aggressive, while females are passive. Or males are more friendly while females are more private. Has anyone seen a trend or is it too each his own + their own life experiences that mold their personalities.

Atleast with the leos I have which is currently 14; I would have to say that I don't think that sex matters. I have some females and males that pretty laid back, and then others of both sexes that are not laid back at all.

Some folks think females are more docile and make better pets.

I think it depends on the individual.
I have never seen any difference.

Well, I honestly don't think it matters. I started with one female (COMPLETE sweetheart) and added a male, and two more females. I was blown away at how different their personalities were! My youngest female I just picked up was a terror lol...she was one year old, and would hiss at me every time I put my hand even near her! I think it has a LOT to do with how they are raised, and by whom. I don't think sex is a factor. I have heard however that Blizzards (I believe it was a Blizzard) can have pretty nasty attitudes, although I've never been in contact with one!

Yeah, I have heard that about blizzards too.
That's why I have avoided buying one.
I dont know how true it really is though since I have no
personal experience with them.

I don't believe gender has much to do with a gecko's personality and disposition. I think each individual gecko is different... some are very chill, others are more feisty. Also, I have several blizzards, and they are just as sweet and tame as the rest of my geckos. My Blazing Blizzard is a little skiddish, though.

I think it does. If I am not getting it regularly I can be a real jerk. Oh wait a minute you are talking about the sex of the Geckos affecting their personalities.

Yea I think it does in that case also. The Males are always a little bit more aggressive especially when they are in breeding mode. All of my Males charge out of their hides when I enter their enclosures right now especially the ones that have been breeding.

Don't think so. But there was a thread about morphs. And a lot of people talked about the Blizzards/Blazing Blizzards. But there wasn't a conclusive result, because some of them were just fine.

According to scientific literature the behaviour of leopardgeckos is influenced by sex and incubationtemperature of the individual. Some behaviours are male typical and some are female typical behaviours. The plastisity, flexibility and intensity of the behavour is more dependent on the temperature the animal is incubated at.

those "hot" females sure are different from the others. you know, the ones produced by temps over 90 degrees? I've heard they are always real nasty.

I have no idea

I do not know what sex my Gecko's are, so I will have to check when they are older but one of them is hyper and bites a lot, and winks at me. His tail will go back and forth and he looks right at me, and comes slowly towards the cage as if stalking me. :main_laugh: I think this one is male, although I really don't know that yet.

The other one is more laid back and hides out a lot. That one must be female. :main_laugh: Although I have no idea, could be male for all I know.
