My fat tail Spot when she laid her first clutch in the sand (which I was unaware of until it was too late) she dug up the tank, laid her eggs and then sat on top of them. Do lizards guard their eggs??? I know they dont care for them once they are born but will they sit and guard or warm them as a bird would do?? I know that evidence exists of birds and reptiles being related in science, but if you have heard or seen anything like this let me know.... I thought it was so cute!! ;)

My leos tend to sit in the lay box for awhile after laying and sometimes continue to dig. Usually I take them out, transfer the eggs and put them back in where they stay for a few hours. I don't thing they're guarding them (I kind of think it just takes them awhile to get out of egglaying mode) but you never know.

I didnt see her lay the eggs I just knew that she dug and then stayed in her hide for about 4 days right on top of the mound with no further digging. Maybe she was just very tired.. she is a lazy one. :cheesy:

It's possible she was tired. The only reptile that I know of that guards it's eggs are alligators/crocodiles. Wait I think some species of snakes do it too, but I'm not certain.

my gecko did that, but for a few hours.

i just think the spot where they lay there eggs happens to be the most comfortable spot for them (temp humidity).

Boas Dont lay eggs....
heheheh, I'm sure kelly meant pythons:)

My females do seem to guard eggs, and for sure do miss them once I take them out. In fact once i saw her sniffing/digging with her nose in search for hem, she seemed sad.

ha thats funny... ball and blood pythons!! I just checked and ooppps.. you were right- the reason I get these confused is b/c my brother used to have a burmese python but he lied to my Mom and told her it was a ball python so she wouldnt know how big it would get :main_evilgrin: and I always confused the two words boa and ball since I am in no way a snake expert ;) geckos are my thing
