So i have had my Dubias for almost a month and they have been growing and eating well. When i checked on them today like i do about once every couple days to put in food and stuff i noticed a dead one under the food dish, it was a nymph about 1.5" long. So what are the mortality rate on these guys? have anyone else had random dead ones from time to time? and is this common, i thought they live for about a year.

Are you sure its a dead one and not an old skin?
I've had mine for a little over two months, maybe? And I've only had one male actually die out of around 150 or so roaches I have now. I don't know the mortality rate but for the most part they're pretty hardy. There have been others that I thought had died and when I picked it up to throw it out I saw it was a hallow skin. What I have noticed though is that sometimes the roaches "play dead" yesterday when I went to feed the I picked up the dishes and saw a male that seemed dead. I even flicked him with my finger and he didn't move so I went to get my trusty 10inch tweezers because I haven't gained the courage to hold them with my bare hands, in the two 2nds it took for me to walk over to my desk the roach was GONE! Obviously he wasn't dead and must have ran back to the egg crates.

what he said, i saw one shed the old skin, legs and all were there in the shed which could like a dead roach!!! they are hardy but give them time and don't move the crates or whatever u have them in too much as they will get stressed and not reproduce, i have a 100 and i just got nymphs now and it has been 3 months.

A few will die throughout time whether it be b/c of age, internal problems, etc. just as long as it isn't frequent and not in larger numbers and you have them set up correctly you shouldn't worry too much.
