Dubia Roaches for cresteds?

I'm tired of crickets, they are loud, smell, hard to raise and don't live every long. So I have been thinking of changing to Dubia roaches. Anyone else tried these with their cresteds? Do they eat them as well as crickets? I hear they are easy to breed and don't smell much and can't climb. Any info is welcome.:main_cool3:

I've tried them. I would only provide small dubia to even my adults, but they ate them fine. I try to just stick with crickets though when feeding my cresteds insects.

They're pretty simple to breed. I just let mine go, making sure to feed them and all. For the most part they just do their thing. They don't smell nearly as bad as crickets.

They're ok but they love to hide under everything. When I fed them I found most of them hidden under stuff when I cleand the cages.
I sold them and went with B. lateralis and they worked much better. They are the same size as crickets and breed faster than the dubia. They are really fast but they just run around, dont hide so the geckos get to them much easier. They are also a lot cheaper than dubia so you can get a huge colony going for much less and the geckos go crazy over them.

Just found out my friend that is sharing a table with me may be bringing a huge lateralis colony to the show if you're going. She sold her cresteds so the roaches have to go too.

Hey Eric, what do you keep your roaches in? I've been using clear plastic tubs for my crickets because the crickets can't climb the clear ones, do these work with these roaches? Also I've been keeping a colony of cresteds that average in the 50's, how many roaches are needed to feed my colony? My adults (about 25) only get feeders once or twice a month. Anyway I'm going to do every thing I can to make it to the show. What all are you going to have for sale?

I keep them in the 66 qt sterilite tubs. The dubia and lateralis both do fine in them, neither of them can climb. I kept them both the same way. Heat mat on one side with egg cartons. Eco earth for the lateralis (they need humidity) and misted the cartons once a week. They eat greens, fruit and love the left over cgd.
If you get a colony of 1000 that should last you once they get going. i was feeding them off weekly and still had a lot.

I am bringing a few carpet pythons and maybe a couple cresteds. I'm really just going to get rid of a few extra things.
If you have a male similar to the one Will got try to bring him, I will probably buy it if anything I have sells:main_thumbsup:

How many roaches does your friend have and how much? I plan on bring all the babies from that same pair that I have so maybe one is pretty close. The clutch mate to that one is very nice with alot of creme but not as much harley markings but the pin lines
(85%) are super bright white.

Hey Eric, I went and looked and I have and male from the clutch after the one Will got that is very close to the one Will got, he's just a little smaller. He has a lot of creme on his sides and legs but the harley markings are just a little lower than Will's. If I can make it you can have a look before the show and see if you like him. He's about 85% pin.

She's not sure how many are in there but thinking a few thousand and they are producing babies now. She wanted $100 for the whole group.

We feed dubias to all three of our cresteds. We just use tongs to feed them so they hardly ever get loose. Once in awhile one gets away, but they always find them. We just use the small ones. Our large girl only gets them once a week because she's a bit chubby. Our little ones get them twice a week and they're growing well now.

Hey Kristi, Thanks for the info but I have a few too many to feed with tongs (around 60 right now). :)

You can try a deep cup because they can't climb out. You just need to make sure it's sturdy so they don't tip it over.
