Dubia Roaches?

The only concern I would have is the exoskeleton. It may be too much (hard) for them to digest, especially younger geckos.

I used dubia roaches last year. They were ok but they always hide under whatever they can find before the cresteds ate them all and 2-3 weeks later when I cleaned their cage I found a bunch all inside the cage.

I use the lateralis now and they are much better and the adults stay small enough to feed to your adult cresteds.

you can put them in a shallow dish. They can't get out and the cresties can find them easier. I feed all of our cricket eating animals dubias now. They all love them!

I wish I had checked out the lateralis before I ordered dubias. They look much smaller. How are they in regards to movement- slow/fast? I used to use discoids with my beardies and nymphs with leopards on occasion, but they were so fast. I've heard dubias are slower; but I like the small size of the lateralis.

They are fast but they just run around the bottom instead of hiding so the geckos can get to them easier. And they seem to be breeding much faster than the dubia.
I bought them for my beardies but sold them so I had a huge tub of roaches I wasnt using but the cresteds have been going crazy for them. My Leos dont seem to like them very much though.

I wish I had known all this before. Ha. The lateralis are much cheaper, as well. :-\ Well, I guess I'll test these guys out, and if they don't work for me, they'll go and be replaced with the lateralis. Guess you just gotta test out different things before you find what works best for your reptiles.

Part of what makes reptiles so much fun is that we have to learn to experiment. We have to try things and see whether our animals like what we are trying. Not every animal will respond in the same way. Experimentation isn't an excuse for obviously poor husbandry, but learning how to work these kinds of details is part of what I find so interesting about having these pets.

Definitely Bill. I'm going to give the dubia a good long try before I decide if I need to try something else or not. I just not that the discoids didn't work as feeders for any of my geckos, just the beardies. I would rather something that was universal. It's just trial and error.

I would love for dubias to be a perfect feeder, but I wouldn't mind the smaller, cheaper lateralis. Oh well. I paid the $72 for 200 dubia, might as well try 'em out for a while.
