Dubias and climbing

So I started my Dubia colony a few weeks ago. I thought that they would be good as I have heard that they are very poor climbers. I have them in a 50 to 60 gallon sterilite container. Probably about 5 inches down on the sides of this container is a 1/2 inch ledge. So about 5 days after I got these guys I opened the container to see a small Dubia about 6 or 7 inches from the top of this container. I went out and got some Vaseline, and put about a 2 inch band all the way around this thing. Then today I opened the container to see another one of these guys climbing up the side of the container. I just sat back and watched as it climbed all the way up to the ledge. I then knocked it back down. So has anyone else noticed Dubias climbing even though they are supposed to be poor climbers? Just wondering if I got a batch of supper climbers. LOL Really not worried about them since I put the Vaseline band around the container.

Mine can't climb if their life depended on it (which it does :D).
I have a plastic tub which goes down about 1 centimeters around the edges, and if the babies fall in they can't climb out, that's how sad they are.
They can, however, climb on things like the egg cartons or plastic with scratched out edges (because of the roughness).
Can you explain what kind of container you have?

depends on the testure of the plastic used to contain them

clear plastics are the smoothest, but aren't great for raising roaches. I've had my turks climb rougher textured plastic bins, I QUICKLY switched bins!

They also sell that teflon paint stuff to keep roaches from leaving tubs. Haven't tried it myself, but i'ts pretty affordable.

I use bug stop around my containers. I've seen small ones climb a little, but they eventually fall down. The big roaches haven't been able to climb at all.

You need to use the smooth containers (feel the inside so have a little texture to them) ... If there is any texture at all they will climb ... Also if you want to just keep yours ... Run a boarder of clear packing tape around the top ... They will not get past it :D

I have one of those. I use it to store junk. It has a textured (matte like)finish, so I would guess that raoches would be able to climb it.

Well I am glad that I was able to get something that is good for their climbing ability. LOL Probably just keep using it for now. If I start seeing little footprints in the vaseline I will know that I am in trouble. LOL
