Should I change my mind about breeding from mealies to dubias, or do Leos like mealies better?
If I should..Is this a good plan?
Get a 70 or so qt container...
Put it in my garage (usually about 70-90)...
Get 6 egg crates, stack em up...
Bowl of water crystals, and a bowl of food (what should the food be made out of???)...
Let them make BABIES :D!
Thanks, Sam

I've heard that leos really love Dubia roaches, and they're much more nutritious than mealies or crickets. I considered starting a colony myself, but they're still pretty expensive. $0.75 to $1.00 each!

Ya...thats another reason to breed em...price...and once you get a ton...you can sell em for like 50 cents and everyone will come to you :DDD
plus they are supposedly much easier to breed

I misunderstood - I thought you wanted to breed them for yourself. But good thinking! It sounds like a good investment. I would be your first customer!

My geckos love both mealworm and dubia.
I bought my first couple hundered dubia from the Roach Guy at theroachguy.com. I pruchased a mixture of roaches so I could feed them and breed them. When he sent me the dubia, he also sent a small amount of roach food and and care instructions.

Yeah, I did the same and jason at theroachguy.com is a great guy. Always an over count and includes info that really helps. His food, the roaches and MEALIES really love. I use the food from him for roaches and my mealies. With the shortage that is going on the roaches are really helping!!

I believe Dubia Roaches are tropical(?) and supposedly will die if they were to escape. They'd at least have problems breeding, so your home wouldn't get infested. I think it's more likely that crickets would escape their containers since these roaches don't fly.:main_laugh:

Dubia Roaches cannot climb smooth surfaces. Thus, if they are kept in a Rubbermaid storage bin or an aquarium, it is unlikely they will escape. As said above, even if they WERE to escape, they need the proper temperature to breed.

Yep,
I was nervous about getting roaches in the house BUT after researching them for a good while I have tried them and will stay using them as much as possible. I will sooner or later swap over to roaches completely!!

yea i definitely like roaches way more then anything else. If your skeptical about them just get a small amount to start out with. I started out with a 50 lot and have since had some babies and am putting in an order soon for a 500 lot to jumpstart my colony

I told my parents on having my own roach colony and they were like, "There is no way you're bringing roaches in this house!", lol. I guess I'll have to stick with mealies and crix.
