I just went to go check on him and he was shedding. I need to get another hide tomorrow when i go to town. Can he fit in the hide in the middle? Oh yeah and some slate tile too.

It's hard to tell if he can fit without seeing the gecko next to it. I'd put him in there if I were you (if he can fit, obviously) just in case he's too scared to go in on his own. The enclosure is a little bare, so it wouldn't hurt to buy two more hides - on dry one in the middle across from the humid hide and one dry one on the cool side. That can help him feel more secure.

Do you have a digital thermometer or a thermostat to make sure those temps are right? The analogs are notoriously unreliable.

Ok on the 2 more hides and i'll get some digital thermometer's too. When i take the top off the shedding box he just jumps out and if i put him up to the hole he acts like he don't wanna go in and goes back under the heat log. Should i still get a under the tank heater if im gonna use slate tile? I'm just going off of what the pet store guy said i needed is why it looks so bare thats why i figured i come on here and ask around thanks for all your help . I just wanna make sure he's comfortable and i can't spell or punctuate. oh yeah and i've seen hammocks to do they like to hang out in little lizard hammocks?

I believe people still use UTHs with slate tile. They usually put a layer of sand underneath the tile to help heat it evenly. But I don't use slate, so I'd wait for someone to help you with that. I've seen people use hammocks for their leos. Each is different, of course, but I know of ones that use them.

As a side note, I wouldn't recommend listening to pet store people. The chances that they actually are educated enough to be able to trust what they're saying isn't very good. So many people end up with sick, injured, or even dead reptiles by following pet store advice. What are you supplementing with?

I've heard the same about the slate, but also don't have personal experience with it. I do, though, use hammocks and my guy likes them. Just bought two more today actually for some of my others

I use slate tiles in my enclosure. I use a UTH hooked up to a HydroFarms thermostat and NO lights AT ALL. Basically I just put down a thin layer of hermit crab sand, then put the slate on top of it. One of the reasons it may not be coming out is because that light is REALLY bright. Get rid of it and get a UTH. And he also needs a hide on the cool side. I use a Fluker's castle crib for my cool hide/water dish and it works great. If you need SOME kind of lighting for a day/night cycle (as in your tank isn't in a room with a window) Just use a low wattage regular light bulb and put it over the middle.

I use slate also. I use a uth as my main heating source although I do use a low wattage light for day to help with heat a little. I have blue nighttime lights I use only when I want to view (barely turned on). Slate can be tricky sometimes. I would recommend trying to find the thinnest slate pieces you can. I am actually going to get a hold of slate used for roof shingles as it is much thinner then what you will find for slate tile flooring. Also, it will take a little while for the slate to heat up. I think it was a good 24 hrs until my temps peaked and leveled out. I also just used a bit of sand underneath just to level the tiles out. With all that said, another good way is to use high end stick on vinyl tiles. The more expensive ones don't give off gasses. Some of the cheap stuff however, you need to be careful with. Slate is a nice look though. I half think stick on would be cleanest as you don't have to deal with sand and a wet saw to cut the tiles. It's personal preference. I had extra slate and sand, so it was sort of a no brainier for me.

Here's a blurry pic of my enclosure. It's old. LOL! I just went to Home Depot and got some Slate tiles, my husband works at Lowe's so I went over there and had the flooring manager cut the slate for me. Went and got some Hermit Crab sand (it conducts heat very well) Put that down, washed the tiles REALLY well with a toothbrush and some dawn dish soap, then I just put the slate down. There is no grout/sealant or anything on them. Ozy LOVES it and it's super easy to clean. My hot side ranges from 92-95 with just a UTH.
