Dying Leo

Well, seems we are not fit to care for a Gecko. This is our second Gecko within 3 years, and she is going south.

I actually found her from one of the breeders on this forum! She was a young, healthy leo when we got her.

She developed well, and seemed very happy/healthy.. She had a HUGE fat tail. Then, about 6 months or so ago, she pretty much just stopped eating. And, then she began having major problems shedding.. We had to, and still do, manually help her with skin removal. I believe some of her skin stuck to one of her eyes, and we may have injured an eye when we helped her shed.

At any rate, at this point, we are not being able to care for her or make her any better. As I type this, she is soaking again, and we are removing skin from her head area and eyes. Her tail is so skinny now, it breaks my heart. It was fatter then a cuban cigar not long ago.

Would anyone out there care to adopt this girl and try to bring her back to health? I feel she still has a chance, and we just cannot give her what she needs....I have tried to do everything right, but seems like its not helping

So sorry to hear. Do you have pictures of your gecko or current setup? I saw some pics you posted of your original set up a few years ago but none more recent. If you added a moist hide and removed the light it would look pretty much like my geckos tank.

I know you might be past trying new things but a few thoughts I have are:
1.) Is the gecko housed in a bright and/or high traffic room? That could stress her out and moving her into a bedroom or even a closet might be a good thing to try.

2.) Have you measured temperatures in your tank with an IRT or something other than an on the glass thermometer? If your house is cold getting the air temperature up to 90 could mean your under tank heater is super hot.

3.) Did you use the same cage as your first leo with this one? If so, did you bleach or disinfect it in some way before using it a second time? The new gecko could have picked some latent virus or parasite up from the last one if it wasn't properly cleaned.

Not sure what else to suggest. Sorry things aren't working out for you. Hope you find someone nearby that can help you and her out!

Thanks guys.... So, heres the deal: Not much has changed with the set up. We did remove the overhead light, and added a moist hide. Temps have been in the 90's. She is in the same room (my office) as always, which is not too bright, but not dark. Also, not a high traffic area. Our house is on the cool side, we live right on the coast in CA, so its usually mid/high 50s outside, and very low 60's inside. If I can figure out how to put a picture on this post, I will

Thanks for the help

The tanks a new tank, so not the same from our first.. Any ideas on how to reduce a picture in sized in iPhoto? I exceed the limit when I try to post.

I am using an under the tank therm.. Its right under her dry hide.

Try uploading the pic to photobucket or something similar and posting a link. You can either reduce the size in that program or post a huge picture.

I think if you "export" the picture to your desktop from iphoto you can choose the quality of the exported image. Less quality should = smaller image size.

Are your temps "in the 90s" measured with the round thermometer on the glass? If so you might want to try to measure the UTH temp with a probe or IRT. If its in the 60s in your house nd tank air is 90 I would be surprised if the UTH is not super hot. That could be your main issue...
