Hi All,

I currently use paper towels in my moist, hide, but a few people have recommended coconut fiber. While at the pet shop the other day I picked up a package of Eco Earth which states it is coconut fiber.

Has anyone used this product in their moist hide, and what was your experience with it?

Thanks All!

the green moss works pretty good i've always found and its not to fine where if they are in it and a cricket strolls in they can eat it, they spit the moss back out

Eco earth coco fiber is good as moisthide substrate, a lot of people use it. It's also a common laybox medium people use for their breeding females.

Personally I stick to paper towels as moist hide substrate for males (to lessen impaction risk), and only use coco fiber for breeding females.

I use my layboxes (which have coco fiber) as humid hides as well and it works fine. No need to moisten as much. I do use paper towel for the babies' humid hides.

Im using right now and i think its pretty good, it dries out pretty quick being on the hot side above the UTH and when it does it almost turns into a dust and gets tracked around the cage which im not too crazy about, but other than that its okay.

I place it where half the hide is above the UTH and half of it is not

But, i do not use eco earth in any of my leopard gecko's moist hides because the high risk of impaction. I just feel nothing should be loose in the cage unless a female is laying. There is no reason to risk it. I do use eco earth for my fat tails moist hides. They need the added humidity and damp paper towel can't provide that well enough

Too much hassle, paper towel works better much simpler but like stated before the cocofiber is best for pregnant females other than that keep the cage or tub free of loose substrate.

yeah

that is what i use, but if you are worrying about impaction, when you put the coco fiber bedding in make sure to check there poop the next week or too see if they have been eating it, mine eat it, but they seem to be passing it pretty well, all of them weigh at least 74 grams and havent lost any weight since so i would say if you use it, make sure and check everyonce and awhile:D
