Hello there. My female Leo is going to lay eggs soon and I could use as much tips as possible about egg incubation and hatchling care and for it to also be on the cheaper side. I have her nesting in vertimicle -(sp?) As far as her in the moistened bedding thats all I know as of now. She mated with a RAPTOR 4 days ago so I am saving money to buy an incubator. The Hova Bator on LLLReptile. I hope it is enough. I just want this to be a success.

Thank you much for you help. ---LOOKING FOR ALL TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL HATCHING---

You need a lot of stuff quick if she is laying eggs. You need rack or tank system. Incubator. Heat mats for hatchlings. Food dishes. Hides. Pinhead crickets. What is the female? You should be able to get all the stuff for around five hundred dollars depending on where you live.

All of this research should have been done prior to even considering leopard gecko breeding. As well as some supplies. So now you're looking for a quick fix, and cheap at that. Disgusting.

+1 I agree. people that do not do reasearch before breeding or buying an animal make me so mad. and doing it for cheap is not always the best for the animal and the #1 thing is what is best for the animal not the cheapest thing you can find.

Youll spend over a grand to get the basic setup for hatchling care. Brother it isnt cheap or somthing to do on a impulse. Just think about what your getting yourself into, alot of work you can count on that.

I understand you dont want negative replies..

But think of it this way..

You basically said..

HEY everyone im having a Twins very soon. what do i need to know about being a parent???

You should know this stuff before you start breeding

I've spent well over a thousand on Leos. What do you expect us to do about you not being ready. You're in for a wake up call. And if you did your research before hand you would know that females don't lay right after mating. It takes weeks.

@imfaster- I have a question.

I'm posting from my phone so I can't post links
but Google leopard gecko breeding there is tons of info

First you come in with a helpful, positive response.

I understand you dont want negative replies..

But think of it this way..

You should know this stuff before you start breeding

Then you suggest the opposite of what you just said by saying first to go on google (which I don't recommend, try finding a breeders actual care sheet) and then saying you should know this beforehand. Why change?

And just a random statistic for you: You have averaged about 17 posts per day in the last two weeks. Before that you averaged just over a post a day. Just throwing out some statistics here.

Well if you google leopard gecko breeding it brings up a few very good pages about breeding.. and would be the place to start IMO if wanting to consider breeding..

and as i said i was on my phone and ill be honest i didnt read the full post..

and clearly now i have more time to be online.. is that a problem?

Not a problem, I just like calculating statistics. And also, I don't think a new leopard gecko keeper would know who a reliable breeder is. IMO it's just better to give a direct link.

Guys, I agree with most of you in that this guy is by no means ready. But at least he is on here trying to find out what to do. It is a start. Instead of Bashing him, why dont we help him like so many others have helped us. I mean I have been raising Leos for 3 years now and I still don't know everything there is to know. so BOBGECKO60 I wish you the best as well as all you others that are breeding this season.

Now I feel bad. Ok here is a crash course in breeding and incubation 101. Anybody can add or argue.

Note: this is for times of desperation only.

What you will need:
1: rubber tote five inches high, poke holes in top for air
2: uth for ten gal tank, attach at one end of underneath of tote
3: drink caps like Gatorade, one for water, cal-dust, mealworms
4: Three toilet paper rolls, placed at each end and one in the middle

For incubation:
1: small tuperware
2: cup of perlite, add as much water as perlite weighs, equal to 1:1 ratio
3: place eggs half way down in perlite, remember to never shift eggs or roll, they must always be in the same position
4: place the container in the hot end of your tank
5: open the container once a week to vent air.
6: remove all eggs that die.

This causes a high fatality rate but maybe one will get one baby. Good luck.

I was not trying to make anyone feel bad. I just know what it was like to be a newbie just trying to get some answers. Yes let them know that they need to research some more before they start but when its too late then just tell them what they need and hope they can get it. Thats all I was trying to say.

All these negative comments? Quit scaring the kid away from a learning experience. There's no way in hell it costs around 500 dollars to hatch a few babies what are you smoking?

Also did someone really compare human twins to leopard geckos? Are you fricken kidding me? This is a forum people. He asked for help. I know every single person that posted pointless comments like said above, all started somewhere as well. We all were NOOBS one time in life.
