Egg Laying

Hi all

I hope I have posted this in the right place, I have only had my Leopard Gecko for about 3 weeks now and I was told by the pet shop that she was about 8 months old, she still has a little banding on her back that has faded a littler so I could quite believe that. So for the last couple of weeks she hadn't been eating very well and spent a lot of her time away from the hot hide and a lot in her moist hide, wasn't too sure why. Well until last night when I went to spray her moist hide and found two eggs, now I know that Females can lay eggs with out them being fertile, so I assume that is what these are, but is she not a bit too young to be laying eggs? I have had a look around the internet and not really got anything that might help. So is this normal for a youngster? I have also read that she could do this every few weeks, or does anyone know the times for something like this, I'm a novice to Leopard Geckos.

I removed the eggs from the moist hide after she circled them a couple of times and she finally gobbled down some hoppers and went back to her hot hide, I'm taking this to mean she is ok.

Thank you
Charlotte

Yes, they can lay eggs as young as 8 months. Most leopard geckos not with a male don't lay eggs, but some do. They lay every 2 weeks or so and can lay from 1 to 10 or more clutches. You may want to check with the pet store you got her from whether there's any chance she was with a male. If so, the eggs and subsequent clutches are probably fertile.

I have been doing a lot of research lately ok the whole breeding and egg laying topic, and I found out female leopard geckos can store sperm for up to a year. So if she copulated with a male before you got her it could be fertile! Good luck!
