Hi Everyone...

So Leon and I moved out of SF and we've kept all of our geckos in separate plastic tubs for a while in our gecko rack... Sunkiss for 2-3 months (weight monitoring... she weighed ~7g less than the others and for the move), Bengal for 2 months (shed monitoring for 1 month, then for the move), and Star for 1 month (due to the move). We're still trying to get situated and unpacked, but it's difficult with a long commute after working in the city and being out and about on weekends. But back to the point - Our geckos are visually sexed females that are approximately 10-11 months old.

Last night, I heard Bengal scratching up a storm in her tub. I thought she just wanted to be handled and let out to walk around, but when I looked in there this morning - there were 2 possible eggs...? Also, she clawed the heck out of her paper towels, but didn't lay in the humid hide - she just plopped them against the cool side next to the water bowl against the plastic tub's side... assuming they're eggs.

She's been pooping normal, she has water and calcium available, and she eats crickets. Last month, she weighed in at 58-60 grams (she was 9-10 months old at the time). So I see two large white things that I believe to be eggs because they're oval shaped and WAY too large to be urates (maybe 1-1.5 inches long?). I tried picking one up with a plastic cap, and it feels spongy. When I tried to do this, she darted half of her body out of her warm hide to watch me, so I left it there thinking she's being "protective" of whatever those things are.

What's going on here? I don't have any males, I've never bred before, and I was planning to breed as a hobby next year, so I don't know what to do. This is the first time it's happened to me. I'm getting some mealies and waxies and hope to entice her to gain some weight back. Her color is still normal and her tail is still fat, but a little slimmer than before. She's still active... so I don't know what to think.

What's going on? LOL! I'm so confused!! :main_huh: :main_huh: :main_huh: :main_huh: :main_huh: :main_huh: :main_huh:

EDIT: It's ONE full egg and one that looks like it was another egg, but she may have eaten it... it's just a spongy bottom, but also too big to be a urate... it doesn't even look like a urate... but more like the other one full possible egg.

It's totally normal. When females reach reproductive maturity they can start to lay eggs even if there isn't a male, just like chickens. LOL When the eggs are infertile sometimes they will expel them before they are fully formed, those are called slugs, and they will commonly lay them in a water bowl or corner of the tank or tub.

Yup, perfectly normal! Reminds me of when we first saw eggs, we were so surprised, it took us a few minutes to realize that they were indeed eggs.

We had the same thing happen last year. A tiny little gal we adopted laid infertile eggs. I thought the kids had somehow put jelly beans in her tank!!! Then when I figured out what they were I panicked for a few hours until Michael (420 Geckos) talked me off the edge :D Luckily she only laid two clutches so it didn't take a big toll on her. She laid the first pair on Good Friday and our kids have called her the "Easter Miracle" ever since :main_laugh:

Thanks everyone! (And sorry for the late response... crazy 2008 so far!)

At first, I thought they were just laid showing she was ready to lay, but couldn't find any threads (probably because I was panicking at the same time) so figured I'd verify with all you pros over here ;) Thanks again so much!!

She's doing great, eating well and active as always :D
