So i've had two geckos for about 7 months now. Natsu and Nami. One male one female housed separate, both have been fine for this whole time. Not my first reptiles but are my first Lep's. They have been much less active lately due to dropping temps so i've been making the appropriate changes to tanks and heating ect... Today i was working on the tanks and i touched my male who appeared to be sleeping rather deeply, the moment i touched him, he snapped awake and let out a rather horrific scream. his body seized up and he flipped to his back. He has been breathing and is capeable of moving under his own power but not very well, he is mostly laying in the tank with his arms laying back and unused. i fear i startled him immensly and may have caused severe damage unintentionally. Is there anyone who has gone though or know of similar situations? Like i said it's not my first reptile but i do lack the experience with the breed. Any help is greatly appreciated as are thoughts and prayers.

I have had geckos (usually males) freak out and start running when I touched them, but nothng like this. I don't really think your startling him caused this. He may have already been ill. It's not uncommon for reptiles to act and look "normal" when ill until they're really sick. If I were you I'd consider a vet visit.

what morph is he?
if he is still capable of moving of his own accord i would leave him be for a while so he can calm down.
if he dosnt recover in a few days i would seek a vet to check him over.
can you also fill in the sticky health thread with details on your housing/ feeding ect

Sounds like a seizure but that doesn't mean life threatening. If you decided to go to a vet make sure they are a reptilian vet. Most vets know very little about reptiles. It would be a shame to waste money and put your leo through the stress of a visit if the vet is going to scratch his head and say "get plenty of rest and fluids."
