I have posted these questions on a couple other forums, and I haven't received the answers i was looking for.

1)What is the difference between an $800 enigma, and a $2000 enigma?
2)Can you "line breed" an $800 into a $2000 enigma?
3)Are there different potential outcomes between a lower end and a higher end enigma?
4)Are there any problems with the enigma line? for an example, red stripes tend to be a diffucult morph to get weight onto...

Any inteligent input is welcome!!

I do not own any Enigmas, but these are a few observations I have made.

1) The $800 Enigmas seems to be het for only one trait such as Bell or Blizzard. While the $2000 Enigmas will be het for RAPTOR or they are Super Snow Enigmas.

2) I guess you could. Albey has moved his SHTCT line into the Enigmas. They have shown varying amounts of Tangerine influence.

3) The outcomes come down to what the Enigma is het for and what other traits it carries along with what it is bred to.

4) Not being an Enigma owner, I cannot answer the question. You'll have to wait for people with experience in owning them.

I think Kyle's answer is quite right. The price on the $2000 enigmas will eventually go down some too, there just aren't as many of these yet. Also, beautiful geckos can always fetch a bit more.

Any gecko is only worth what someone will spend......beautiful geckos will always command better prices. It also depends on how many are available at any given time, but currently, enigma genetics tend to be the biggest price factor.

Depends on what you're breeding, and what you're looking to acheive. If you breed an enigma het bell to a bell, you're going get less bell engimas than if you bred a bell enigma to a bell. Bell enigmas currently commend a higher price than het bell enigmas. Personally, I also really like the het bell enigmas, so I bought an enigma het bell male. The price of the enigma het bell male vs. a bell enigma male, as well as the price of the potential offspring, was not what drove my decision. I firmly believe that you should buy what you like.

If you do a quick search on enigmas on this forum, you will see that lots of enigmas - not all - do have an issue with "circling." It doesn't appear to be neurolocial, rather stress inudced, but most new morphs tend to have some issues in the first few generations. Hopefully, this is a trait that will eventually be weeded out.

Hope that helps. :)

??? The apprx. 400 Redstripes (HQ line) we've hatched over the last five years have put on weight similar to the other lines we're working with. Some of our biggest and most voracious breeders, male and female are Redstripes.
Agreed, there are multi-morph enigmas that fetch a higher price just as the Macks and other lines have as they progress. The Tangigmas can be expected to produce a range of color intensity and prices just as the non-enigma Tangerines do. Another example, when Ron Tremper first posted the Aptors there were $800 ones and $1500 ones... the prettier ones with the highest price tags were the first to sell.
There seems to be little benefit in breeding Enigma to Enigma so yes, you can produce $2000 Enigmas from $800 Enigmas with a little foresight and luck in choosing lines and/or individuals to breed them with.

I got some pure HQ redstripes from Dan last year, and they grew way faster than my (non-giant) Aptors. I've had a harder time putting weight on blizzards--not Blazings, just regular blizzards...

#1 $1200. age/sex/color, etc. all help decide a geckos "value". Plus, different sellers/breeders have different prices for their geckos.

#2 Yes, of course! Think of traits as skills passed from father to child--that child may be better at that skill then his father ever was. An 'ugly' enigma could produce gorgeous enigmas when bred to a nice Tang for example. In captivity, it's impossible to breed without line/selective breeding, since we've eliminated natural selection from the equation--ALL geckos (regardless of the genetics involved) are able to be line-bred to work towards certain traits or a specific appearance. You just keep the kids that are "better" than their fathers ;)

#3 By lower/higher end, do you mean price?, or are you refering to the Gecko's genetic condition? I'm not quite understanding the question...

#4 I guess some 'walk in circles' when startled. That's just not worrysome enough to scare me away from working with them! I'm dedicating almost all of my females to breeding to an Enigma male this year. And with all the outcrossing being done, any potential issues should disappear very quickly...
