Well between all of my many geckos, I have seen a lot of behaviors involving the "tail wag" I think its just a communication tool to them, not necessarily just an aggressive maneuver. Some of mine will wag their tails while standing up against the glass or plastic "depending on which cage" when they want food. Some will do it just before screeching at a gecko they can see from another cage, some will do it when they want me to go away, but also if you haven't noticed some will straighten out their tails and try to twitch them violently to show they are very intimidated.
Mine just did it today! A baby as well maybe 2 months while standing on the glass. I was just kneeling down looking into the cage and he/she then just did that and then climbed onto his/her hide, which he/she has never done before. It made me smile
