I walked into the local petstore yesterday to Have a little gecko chat with a local breeder who works at the Petstore... I just happened to look in the ball python tank ( Which i might add they are selling normal baby ball pythons for $80, I know what a rip off) But anyway i saw a gorgeous baby ball with beautiful blushing and almost looked like a yellow belly. I ask to hold it and immediately saw that there is something very wrong. about 3/4 down its body i see that her ribs are flattened and spine is bent. I told my buddy and he told the owner and i told the owner i would take the snake home and too the vet. Well if thats not bad enough tonight when i got home from work i peeked into my leopard gecko rack (i am keeping the baby ball in a 15qt tub) and i see a crazy amount of mites!!!! I googled snake mites but my question is how do i get rid of the mites????

What does everyone use to get rid of the mites? Good news though i bought a hopper mouse for the snake and she ate it no problem, so at least she has an appetite. I would appreciate any help and i will post pictures in the morning. Thank you in advance for your help.

provent a mite is the best for getting rid of mites. I wouldnt bother with the mite stuff pet stores sell, it hardly works at all and they mites will come back. If you have any other snakes you will need to treat them too. Mites can spread very quickly through a collection.

Thanks for the help... No i dont have any other snakes i just thought i would take this one in because the pet store was just going to "literally" throw the snake away. I just breed geckos. I talked to a buddy of mine who breeds balls and he has some provent a mite and some natural chemistry stuff that he said works well. I will try and get some pics of the snake up later. Thanks for your help

The geckos can't get infested with the snake mites. The mites are particular about the host they feed on. The can, however, get all over the place and be a pest, so it's still best to move the snake.

Are you sure about this?
Mites are specific to reptile hosts and cannot infest mammals.

A really cheap and effective way to get rid of mites is by using Equate brand Bedding Spray. You can get it at Walmart. It has the same affect as Provent A Mite. I even rub down all my new quarunteens with it. Never had a problem with mites while using it.
