my female (the princess) really loves to come out i'll be cleaning her cage or something & she will crawl right up on my hand (when she wants to) if i am trying to get her out. she turns and walks way. and if i try to put her back home b4 she's ready. she will try to get out...seriously
But i let her crawl around on the living room floor (supervised of course)
My male(the A-hole) only tollerates, me getting him out. but once he's out on the floor. he seems to enjoy exploring, but is always ready/willing to go back in
Thanks for the advice.
I was thinking of either letting my gecko run round on the floor on in the bath.
She is still quite young so I probably won't leave her out too long.
Well I got her out today and let her run round on the floor in a corner so it was confined and not as scary for her.
I also put one of her hides down so she could use it which she did at first but she soon started exploring and running round.
She seemed to like it alot.
I let mine crawl all over me. Harley likes to crawl up onto my shoulders, hang out there for a while, then crawl down my back and around the sofa, then I have to stop him from trying to make a hide out of the couch. I also let them run around on my bed a lot, climbing on the pillows and finding little holes to explore in the sheets. leos are fun
I put him on my bed, pile my pillow and blankets up so he can climb and explore, and leave him be for a while (of course, supervising him, but not interfering unless he puts himself in danger).
He loves it.
It must be nice to have the freedom to roam after being confined to a little tank all day.
Im the same way. My first leo was very calm, so I tried holding her over my bed, but for some reason she decided it was fun to sprint of my hand and do a belly flop on my bed...so I stopped holding her outside the tank. The next day while I was holding her, she jumped of my hand and flew to the top of the tank. Ever since then I decided I would not hold my leos outside of their cages, cause I think they will get hurt.
My adult female gets to run around on my very big kitchen counter (supervised) once in a while and my juvie is a little too spazzy for that yet, though I do handle him and let him walk on me.
In general neither of my two are super-super friendly, they won't sit still on me the way some people's do. The female is pretty calm about handling but tends to walk off my hands if I don't watch her. The juvie was a pet store baby and is still hissing at me when I startle him, I'm sure because of the rougher treatment he got as a hatchling. I just chalk it up to personality differences. Maybe third gecko will be the charm.
lol Funny thing you said that, I have three geckos, the first one is a bit reluctant to be held, the second doesn't mind it and will sit on my hand for about twenty minutes, but the third one I got absolutely begs to be held, she'll walk right up on my hand whenever I'm in her tank cleaning it out and all, and she seems to like being pet on the head:main_laugh:. .....oops, got sort of off topic, sorry lol. I usually bring them out on the couch, the bed, on the floor in the bedroom supervised, and ocassionally outside.
My leo acts shy and rarely come out of her hide inside the tank. When i take her out to handle her and put her on my bed she acts like a fearless super explorer. Crumpled up bed sheets makes a good exploring habitat for a leo.
