Exo Terra Reptile Den

Hi, I'm new! Lol... Anyway, (sorry if this is already posted) but I want to get one of those "Exo Terra Reptile Dens" for my Leopard Gecko, but I have some questions for the people who use these. I have an adult gecko, so what size would be appropriate? I'm concerned that the door will be too small, because I don't have the tools to enlarge the opening. So I'm wondering if these have worked for anyone. And is there anyway that my Leo can get hurt in one of these? I've heard that the magnets are powerful, so I'm aware that I would need to secure them well. Thanks to anyone that can help me with this! ~Nat

P.S: Also, I have a 20g long tank, so that might help with the size question!

I used a large size for a while, but one of my leos got his toes stuck in it, so out it came! :D

Sorry, I hope you didnt have your heart set on one :(

There are lots of other (safer) caves on the market, and I'm sure 99% to folks who use these never have a problem.
I did though :(

Yeah, I have a regular cave, one of those zilla corner caves, and a zoomed 3-in-1 hide for a humid hide already, but he loves his humid hide so I thought that he might like one of the exoterra ones too. But I heard rumors that their toes can get stuck and I was waiting for someone to say that. And the opening seems really small, so I was afraid he might get stuck too. So actually, thanks for telling me. I was just kind of unsure whether I wanted one or not. :)

I have both medium and large models, and both are fine for an adult. Actually, all 6 of mine like to pig-pile into the large one during the day. Check ebay, I got my large one for like 15 shipped. Just make sure it's on stable ground, and be careful when you put the outside back on. The cave is designed with some small tolerance for toes and such, I was paranoid about that myself when I first got 'em.

My leo prefered to stay in it over eating. Its impossible to properly heat, and my leo would never leave it.

LOL! yeah they do like the things. Must be the tight room inside.
Leos do like to wedge themselves in tight places :D

Your right about the heating thing too. The heat matt does not reach in there at all.

I've been using the medium size one since August now with no problems but I agree the magnets are powerful & I have to be sure the tail & feet are out of the way before closing it. Honestly, I never really thought much about it but reading these postings has brought it to my mind now. I just think its due to my geckos staying more towards the cave wall than the glass. I probably just got lucky.

Does any heat get through it at all? Because heat gets through the bottom of my zoo med 3-in-1 hide to make it humid. And do they like it anyway even though it's cool in there?

I have the large one on the cool side, and the smaller one on the warm side sitting on tile with a UTH under it, and it gets plenty warm. I can actually feel the heat through the glass, and when I move it around it is warm to the touch. I wouldn't stress over heating it though, at night when the geckos are active they will come out in the open and find heat sources to lay on. I have a red light and catch my geckos lying out on the warm tiles at night all the time.
