I have them in my RETF tanks just to keep the humidity up. but I was wondering, do you guys think that the upkeep is a pain in the butt? It seems like every other day I am having to unplug the stupid thing and do a full clean out or it gets slimy. Any comments?

Do you use a water conditioner? If not you should try using one.

what does it do? just cut down on bacteria?

It treats the water and takes out chlorine and other harmfull things in it. You could also buy a mini filter and put it in the water if you dont already have one.

well the waterfall comes with a filter and I use bottled water in it

Have you cleaned the filter? And maybe you have to change the insert in the filter because once those get dirty the waster doesnt stay as clean.

Try getting a nicer filter, or tweeking the one you have. I have done tanks like that with reed frigs, darts, green trees, red eyes and gliding frogs. We had it set up live with a pothos plant and a Tom's filter in it. Since the filter doesnt actually come with a filter pad I broke open the charcoal filter, took some out and put in a filter pad I cut to fit inside of it. This helps alot and I was able to do water chances once a week. We also used a filter aid (biotize) which helps break down biological waste in the water.
