Colys 2014.jpg

So, I am not entirely certain if theses are Coleonyx varigatus variegatus Mesa locale, as I've been calling them, or perhaps C.V.bogerti.

I do know they are the captive offspring of Coleonyx collected outside of Mesa, AZ.
The male has eight preanal pores, so I have been leaning toward C.v.bogerti. Is that a scale-count key somewhere that could help me ID definitively what subspecies I have?

Thanks!

Googling has previously found me:

Coleonyx variegatus variegatus - Desert Banded Gecko

Western Banded Gecko (Coleonyx variegatus) - Reptiles of Arizona

wildherps.com - Western Banded Gecko (Coleonyx variegatus)

http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/edits/documents/Colevaut.d.pdf

http://www.repository.naturalis.nl/document/150295

I was actually just hoping for opinions of folks who have already worked with banded subspecies personally that might be able to help me discern better what I actually have. Since I have narrowed it down to C.v.variegatus vs. C.v. bogerti, I was hoping for someone who could tell me a place/website to find a subspecies key. Or perhaps cues on how a hobbyist could tell the two apart with scales counts or the like.

As I've said, the male does have eight pre-anal pores, which is why I suspect C.v. bogerti.

Nice to see you, too, Aliza. ;)

I can't claim to have any experience with Banded Geckos, but just a quick glance at the Coleonyx section of The Eyelash Geckos suggests your guess of C. v. bogerti may be right due to the number of preanal pores.

Oh, yes, that was my other resource.
My friend Saille has a copy of that book. I neglected to mention it. I definitely would like a copy myself.

Thanks again! Looks like I'll have to update my iHerp.
