Those are not 'true' eye caps like most other non-eublepharid reptiles have. Those are a build up of old skin (not from the eyeballs) and puss infection.
I had to admit I giggled too.. For quite some time actually. Anyways, I'm not sure about leos, I know they usually eat their skin but I have had a corn snake that retained eye caps before. I have also never had a problem with my crested shedding either.
That is what my first leo looked like when I got her, just not as severe. She may have some vision loss but she can see well enough to hunt from a dish.
