Eye infection

Okay, well it seems one of my leos has got an eye infection. At first I thought it was the substrate so I seperated her... Wasn't that. Then, somebody told me to wait til she sheds because it can be skin... She sheded, wasn't that. So I called a local vet (that knew about reptiles) and he said to use Terramycin, which I found at a pet store. It is an antibiotic ointment. I know the vet gave me this info and it should be ok, but I wanted to get input from you guys aswell. I just finished her first dose.

I've used it in reptiles with success...
I've also used it in reptiles with no effect...
So i'd say it's about 50/50. See, this is why I am so big on culturing everything. When you culture a sample of the affected area, you grow the exact infection/bacteria/fungus that the animal has...the results then give the doctor a list of what drugs will work (sensitivity) and what drugs won't (resistance). It's so much easier and worth the extra money, IMO, than just grabbing at random antibiotics and pushing all kinds of unneccesary drugs into the animal. I don't know why more vets don't do this. Actually I do but that's a whole separate thread. No wonder why nobody has confidence in vets these days.

If the Terramycin doesn't work...go back to that doctor and tell them you want a culture and sensitivity. This test will tell you the disease process you're dealing with and the drugs that will help, instead of just spending money and praying something will work.

U P D A T E

Just an update on Wally (I know, boy's name... SO WHAT!) The Terramycin seems to be doing the trick! I am so happy, because this one is "my little girl" and it just broke my heart seeing her the way she was. Well just thought I'd let yall in on it, and good thing she is better because she is the baby that usually tags along with us to the reptile conventions and we are hitting one up tomorrow and sunday!!!
