Hey guys,

I recently noticed something on the eye of my Mack Snow/Fasciolatius cross. I have attached a close up and the full size image of her eye. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what was wrong with it?

The bigger issue is, I do not have a reptile vet in the Portland/Salem, OR area which I trust. All of the non reptile vets have refered me to a vet which I have tried out. He told me I should feed all of my Leopard Geckos Earth Worms :main_rolleyes:. If anyone knows a good vet in the Portland, OR region, could you please let me know?

Thank you,

Kyle Johnson

I forgot to mention the housing situation. She is currently housed in a 15 qt tub in an Animal Plastics Economy Rack. Temperatures on the hot spot are between 88-92. She feeds regularly on Gutloaded Mealworms from Sunshine Mealworms. They are also dusted with Calcium with D3 and Herptivity. The substrate is paper towel and she is housed by herself.

Thank you,

Kyle Johnson

Looks like a cataract. Its not covering the pupil though. When her pupils expand, does the foggy spot get smaller or does it stay in the same spot?

The spot stays the same. She also tends to blink that eye a lot more than the other eye.

It appears to be a small piece of stuck shed? or posibly an infection caused by stuck shed? If thats the case, I'd flush the eye with a regular eyewash/rinse, and if that doesn't do it, I'd very carefully use a moist Qtip to GENTLY remove the skin (if thats what it is) from the eye. You've got to be very very careful when working in or around the eyes though, so if you're not totally comfortable doing this--don't risk it! Just last week, one of my favorite redstripes had a tiny piece of bed-a-beast stuck in her eye, I got the piece out, but the eye still needs to be kept clean to heal on its own. Please let us know how things turn out!

I would say she could be going blind in that eye. Usually in animals when the eyes get foggy like that it is a sign of blindness. I'd call a vet

It appears to be something that may have gotten stuck in her eye, and an infection may develop from the irritation. Maybe you could get your regular local vet to sell you a small tube of ophthalmic salve like NeoPolydex or Gentamycin.

Hey Kyle, we had a female who's eye looked exactly like that. It was gunk (possibly from stuck shed) stuck in her eye. I was able to remove it by gently wiping toward the corner of her eye with a wet q-tip. It took a few wipes but it did come off.
