Ziva's eye was cloudy and a breeder friend said to see if it's better after she sheds. It's not cloudy anymore but there seems to be a film over both eyes now, and around the edge of the one that was cloudy has what looks like shed skin. I'm not sure what to do about the film and shed skin. It's hard to get her to open her eyes for me.

I have heard that leopard geckos can easily get eye infections that can become systemic infections. I'd recommend taking her to a vet because she may need antibiotics. I may have mentioned this on another forum (or maybe it was someone else) but I really like the name Ziva because I have a son named "Ziv".

Is there any way to get the skin off without hurting her? My vet doesn't take reptiles, but I can find out if he knows of one that does.

If it's really skin on the eye then you can use a fingernail or a tweezers (I'm a little leery of putting a tweezers near a gecko's eye, though) to pull it off. You can also use a q-tip to drip some warm water on the eye and try to wash it out. If there's a film that's not shed skin, it may be an infection and then it will need a vet visit.

I got the skin off! I've been trying just about every with q-tips and it wasn't working so I finally broke down and used tweezers (I was REALLY paranoid!) and I did it without hurting her or anything. Her eyes seem normal now, but I'll be watching her closely.

Well whatever it was that was wrong woth her eye got worse again. I've got some ointment that seems to be helping. The day after I started using it she had both eyes open for the first time. I think she's getting used to me putting q tips near her eyes, she is a lot calmer about it now. The friend I got her from had 2 geckos die recently after having eye problems for a while. I think she was sick when I got her but it didn't show up right away. I've been giving her extra vitamins and I even brought her with me to put the ointment on while I'm out of town this weekend

Yeah this is the first year I'm having a TON of eye infections going on. Achilles is dealing with a HORRIBLE eye infection from the Cloudy stuff after a shed that caused this whole thing. One eye had shed stuck on it bad and now that eye has begun to drop water concentrated blood drops. I freaked out when I saw two of them earlier today.. He's going to hopefully see a Vet tommorow but the eye infections start for a few reasons:

Lack of Vitamin A & Shed, or Dirty Masses on the eye will build up the gunk. The easiest way to get rid of it is immedietely supplement Vitamin A the day after finding it and if shed get them really humid and try to pull it off. By the way shed on the finger's is SERIOUS. Over time it will become stuck and infect the fingers until the finger's skin begins to come off when you try to pull the dead skin off of the gecko..
